The summer nights are no longer and these darker nights are beginning to make us wonder… will we ever leave the house with more than just a half-dried hair look? Luckily we have rounded up a selection of quick and easy hairstyles you can replicate at home with the use of just a comb!
Don’t get yourself in a muddle, just follow our small guide to autumn’s hottest looks. We’ll make sure that styling your hair will never be a struggle again!
1. Clip It Back
Go to town on your accessories with this functional and affordable look. Not only is it simple, it’s also the hottest hair trend this year, with every catwalk filled with pretty pearl clips, it’s a must-have addition to your lookbook. We recommend using the funkiest clips you can find, style your hair and then go wild! Don’t be afraid to mix and match with different sizes and textures, this will help to add a touch of personality to an otherwise casual look.
2. Mermaid Waves
Defeat the heat and use a sock to create effortless mermaid waves. Yes, you heard it right, using a pair of socks to wave your hair is so on-trend RN. Following a viral trend on TikTok, beauty fanatics have been curling their hair with the help of a little bit of water and a pair of their fave socks! So, save yourself and hit the snooze button tomorrow, because you won’t need to spend 30 minutes trying to salvage your bodacious bed-head, just separate your damp hair into a few sections, then weave each section of hair in between each sock in a crisscross motion. Finish the look off in the morning with thetexturizing salt spray to maximise volume and create a long-lasting effect.
3. Half Up Half Down
If your hair tends to get greasy, oily or frizzy, this look is the perfect way to deal with those extra oils. It works best on those days where you just can’t be bothered to wash your hair. Whether your hair is short, long or curly, just section the front of your hair and tie it back with a cute clip and a bobble and hey presto you’re all done!
4. Low Bun and Scrunchie
Hairstyle trends come and go, but the low bun is timeless. Whether you prefer your bun to be sleek or your bun to be slightly tousled, this classic look has you covered. Use a brush and either gel or pomade to pull back the hair into a bun, creating a clean, fresh finish. If you’re going for more of a relaxed feel, spray your hair with dry shampoo to create a lightweight texture, then, tie it back loosely and pull out a few strands to shape your face. Don’t forget to pop a cute scrunchie around your bun to really make your hair stand out from the crowd.
5. Scarf It
Say goodbye to wasting time in front of the mirror and hello to lie-ins this season with the trouble-free scarf look! Wear it on your head, tie your hair with it or even wear it around your neck for an oh so chic look. The scarf is a versatile way to turn that basic pony into a playful ponytail in just a few simple steps. Autumn is here, so be sure to match your scarf to the colours that appear this season…
London Fashion Week is over and we’re already missing our daily dose of fresh fashion snaps and insights into what’s been happening behind the scenes (not to mention the incredible street style we’re pinning all over the web!). So what do we do now that fashion’s hottest week has left the capital? Recreate the beauty styles of course!
After happily scrolling through Pinterest, Instagram and all our favourite fashion magazines, we have compiled the huge list of beauty trends into three quick and easy looks that you can wear on a daily basis.
Into The Blue
Peacock blue eye liner and eye shadow shades were smudged along the eye lids at the Temperley London show. Using a natural and flawless make-up base, make-up artists created natural and effortless looking skin which only helped to further enhance the vibrancy of the eye make-up look (not even the brows were fussed with!).
We instantly thought of mermaids when we seen these dramatic eye colours and instantly wanted to channel Ariel a la Little Mermaid. Rimmel’s Colour Mousse Eyeshadow in the shade ‘Mermaid’ was the first product we thought of when we wanted to attempt this Spring look. The texture of this product is extremely smooth and creamy meaning it applies effortlessly, either with your fingers or a make-up brush. Try not to stray from the lid when applying this shade and avoid taking the colour above the brow bone; we want the focus to stay as close to the eye as possible.
Top Tip: Taking an angled eye liner brush, trace a small amount of the colour along the bottom lash line but only concentrating on the outer corners. This will create a cat eye shape which will help to intensify the make-up look.
Glamorous and sexy, heavy gold & burgundy eyes accompanied by a heavy plum lip were spotted at the Matthew Williamson show, as created by the very talented Lisa Eldridge. Plums and burgundies are usually shades reserved for the winter months but we like how the fash pack are switching up this trend to incorporate it with our S/S outfits.
Although we still have lots of deep lip shades knocking around from before Christmas, we love adding new brands and lipstick formulas to our make-up bag, so we’re hitting up BECCA’s Glossy Lip Tint in the shade ‘Maraschino’. BECCA has been one of our favourite new make-up brands to land on site, especially for this super pigmented lip gloss. There are a few great ways of using this product to create an intense berry look. You can start by lining and filling in your lips with a similar shade of lip pencil and using the gloss to add the final touches or you can dive straight in and apply the gloss all over for an intense and vintage inspired make-up look.
Top Tip: Dab a very small amount of the gloss onto your cheeks and spend a good amount of time blending it along the apples of your cheeks. This will pull the whole look in together.
Inspired by the beautiful Olivia Palermo who was a LFW Frow regular this season, we’re crushing on super straight hair that is very slightly tousled. Effortless and relaxed, we have a total hair crush on this trend that is really kicking off this S/S.
Whether you have straight, curly, frizzy, oily or dry hair, to create the polished straight look, you’re probably going to have to enlist the help of your straighteners. As much as we don’t like to admit it, any kind of heat on our hair is going to have damaging effects, whether that be breakage or dryness. That’s why we’ve called on the help of our good friend Tresemme and their Thermal Creations Style Creator Spray. We love this product because it helps you to create any kind of texturised look while protecting your locks from heats of up to 230 degrees. It also has holding qualities that will keep your hair in place throughout the day while adding a touch of healthy shine!
Top Tip: Take this styling spray with you on the go! If you hair is feeling a little lack luster throughout your busy day, spritz a small amount along the ends and create a beachy texture that’s bang on trend.

It’s taken me a long time to come to terms with the rules regarding lip liner. Thankfully, I was blessed with your average pair of lips, meaning they’re not too small, they’re not too big, they’re just right! (Just call me Goldilips). But when I started working at Fragrance Direct, I noticed that all the girls in the office had lip liner filled make-up bags so was this a memo I missed?!
I have always associated lip liner with those terrifying 90s photographs were a brown lip pencil was a girl’s best friend (How ironic that this look is now back in style!). But with a tonne of new formulas, shades and brands that are all offering us a piece of the lip liner cake, we’re ready to indulge in some serious lip envy calories!
I started my lip liner journey with my trusty Carmex Moisture Plus Balm. There’s nothing worse than applying lip liner to chapped, dry lips (I found out the hard way), so apply a generous amount of your favourite lip balm, get to doing the rest of your make-up and by the time you’re ready to get lining, your pout will be perfectly prepared!
You can of course match your lip liner to every shade of lipstick you own but that’s going to take a lot of time, effort and pennies, so try taking a leaf out of my book and find three lip pencil shades that you can adapt with a range of lip colours.
First up is Pupa’s Lip Pencil in the shade 113. I love a deep berry lip, especially during the winter months. I like to apply this lip pencil by very gently shading the outer corners of my lips and then filling in the entire lip with the same colour. Although I’ll be applying a lipstick over the top, using a lip liner first will intensify and lock in the colour for longer.
So remember when I mentioned the risquǸ brown lip liner shades above? Well you may want to stock up on a few of this season’s hottest shades of chocolate when it comes to your S/S beauty regime (definitely don’t hunt out your lip liner from the 90s, that’s just gross!). Think Kate Moss, cirque 1995 when a deep, sumptuous brown lip brought out all those lovely bronzed tones in your face, perfect for Spring/Summer.
L’Oreal Studio Secrets Lipliner in 062 Brown is almost a mauve shade of brown that works really well with skin/flesh coloured shades of lipstick. Of course you can go all Jesy Nelson aka Little Mix on us and line your lips with this shade and then opt for a lighter tone of lipstick to really pronounce your lips and make the lip liner noticeable. But if you’d rather keep things low key, stick with a similar colour and enjoy fuller, plumper lips.
No make-up bag would be complete without a red lip liner, am I right? When I want to go all out for a big night out, I instantly reach for a trusty red lip, so when I realised that a red lip liner can only intensify the look, I instantly went on the hunt for the perfect one.
That’s when I found Astor Rouge Couture Lip Liner in the shade Bois de Rose. Deeply red and beautifully vintage, I immediately got to pairing this with my favourite red lipstick (which is in fact Calvin Klein Delicious Luxury CrÇùme Lipstick in the shade Clear Rose, just in case you’re interested!). Not only does my lip colour last all night, I can enjoy those few glasses of wine without having to check that my lipstick hasn’t smeared all over my face!
So lip liner has officially changed my beauty life. Am I late to the party or lip liner a revolution? Let me know by leaving a comment below!
Spring may seem like a distant dream right now but we’re already dreaming of its fashion and beauty benefits. We can discard the tights, ditch the layers, reach for the tinted moisturiser and now no longer have to fuss over our nails so much!
As pretty and fun as crazy nail art is to look at, actually achieving the look can result in either a pricy trip to the salon or a DIY catastrophe at home (unless you’re a whiz kid when it comes to nails). That’s why we love this season’s hottest new trend for your nails ‘ Floating Nail Art.
We know it may sound a little intimidating but floating nail art is all about minimal design which is going to make it easier for you to achieve and wear this on trend look. Shown on all the S/S 14 catwalks, The Floating Nail Art trend is set to take the beauty world by storm. Just remember – the minimal, the better.
One of the main reasons why we’re falling head over heels for this look is the simplicity of the method. The trick is not to have your nails looking like you’ve tried too hard while keeping things looking chic and sophisticated. Take a look at some of our favourite floating nail art images to get some ‘nailspiration’.
Simple and sophisticated, we love this minimal take on the classic French manicure. To achieve the look, all you need is a nude polish, some nail art striping tape, a black shade of varnish and a top coat.
Baby blue can transform your nails and give them that perfect Spring edge. Make a subtle statement and opt for a nude base before applying a light shade of blue in a half-moon shape along the cuticle.
If beige and white weren’t a match made in heaven, we don’t know what is! Adopting the same half-moon design, apply a nude base to your nail before reaching for a dramatic white to create the semi-circle shape.
Who needs one nail polish when you can have five?! If you want to keep things a little more playful, take inspiration from this adorable 5-colour look. Choose your favourite shades and create a semi-circle on each cuticle. Then just sit back and marvel at your masterpiece!
Top tips for creating the Floating Nail Art Trend
Always prep your nails before applying any product. It’s important to give your nails a healthy base so that any colour you use will apply smoother and last for longer.
It’s the oldest beauty trick in the book but using a nail file can strengthen, shorten and prime your nails for any style you want to try. We love Royal’s 7 Way Nail Buffer for its ability to grip, smooth out and buff your nails in 7 different ways. And let’s face it, you always need a nail buffer for your handbag!
Give your nails a little TLC with Jessica’s Phenomen Oil. This is an intensive moisturiser which aims to condition your nails. Put a few drops and spend a few minutes moisturising the product into your nails, including the cuticle. It will help to promote the growth and strength of your nail base.
If you want your nail polish to have major longevity, then always use a base coat before applying your favourite shade. Sally Hansen’s Insta Grip Fast Dry Base Coat creates a nourishing base for your nails so that your shade maintains its colour and stays chip free for longer.
90s Revival has never been more on trend than if you stepped back into the 90s era. We’re not asking you to dig out your choker necklace and your Sporty Spice inspired work out gear but we do encourage you to lace your lips with a dark lipstick shade.
SS14 gave us a huge insight into the beauty trends that key designers were keen to strut down the catwalk. Fendi and 3.1 Phillip Lim made a statement not only with their designs but with bold lip shades that set a precedent for the 2014 beautysphere.
Traditionally, dark shades of lipstick have been reserved and boxed off for winter as a way to add a pop of colour to your winter wardrobe. But now, cast aside all of your S/S traditions and look at this season’s hottest lip colour trends that feature some shades that may surprise you.
Berry lipstick shades are one of our favourites for evolving your every day make-up look. Add a subtle brightness to your lips with shades such as Calvin Klein’s Delicious Luxury CrÇùme Lipstick in ‘Desire’. This is a deep and sumptuous shade of berry with undertones of subtle pinks.
Top Tip – If you don’t want to go too heavy on your lipstick, the trick is to apply the product with your fingers. This will subtly build the colour up over time and lets you control how dark or light you want your lipstick to be.
Max Factor’s Lipfinity Lip Colour is an intense shade of berry that will add a subtle, pretty colour to your lips. It contains soft blue undertones which suits a range of skin tones, in particular dark and olive tones.
Top Tip – A nice trick to try if you want to tie your make-up look in together is to warm up the lip shade between your fingers and gently apply to your cheeks, blending upwards and outwards. This will pull the look in altogether and add a subtle glow to your cheeks.
When Kate Moss stepped onto the scene in the early 90s, her striking facial features and long legs weren’t the only thing we noticed about her. Her ability to wear and rock a brown lip has always stuck in our memories as the ultimate 90s beauty trend.
Take inspiration from the likes of Drew Barrymore and Kat Dennings when you’re thinking about trying this revived make-up trend. Bourjois Une’s Lip Toned Colour Lipstick in the shade L 21 is a good place to start. A deep, rusty brown, this matt lipstick is ideal for darker skin tones.
Top Tip – Before you apply the lipstick, take a tooth brush and gently exfoliate the lips. This will leave you with a smooth base that will grasp the colour for longer.
If you have a fair/light complexion, Becca’s Sheer Tint Lip Colour in Milla is a more wearable shade of brown. This Becca lip product is sheer and hydrating, leaving a subtle shine to the lips so that you can build the colour up over application.
Top Tip – If you want the colour to last for longer, sweep a light dusting of pressed powder over your lips ‘ this will help to lock the colour in all day.
Bordeaux shades are deep tones which compliment golden and darker skin. Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lipstick in ‘Sweet Bordeux’ is a rich shade of burgundy which is a great transitional colour to take you from day to night.
Top Tip – Apply this product with a lip brush to really accentuate your lips and enhance the colour.
Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in ‘Across The Universe’ is an amazing product for adding an intense stain to your lips. It applies like a gloss which quickly sets and tints your lip for all day wear. Across The Universe is a sumptuous Bordeaux shade that will instantly add drama to any make-up look.
Top Tip – Before applying this product, use a lip liner in a similar shade to outline your lips. This will help create the perfect pout.
