Warm weather keeping you up? Us too. We know there’s just nothing more frustrating than not being able to sleep during the heat – as the temperature increases, the amount of time we spend tossing and turning tends to increase too, but not to worry, here are some clever tips and tricks that can help our minds and bodies switch off this summer…
Use a wet towel: During those warmer nights, a wet towel is going to be your new bestie. Try soaking an old towel in water and hanging it in front of an open window in your house or even in front of your fan. This ensures that any air flowing through your space will pick up the cool moisture from the twel and circulate it round the room.
Pop your pillowcase in the freezer: Sounds sort of bizarre doesn’t it? But this handy little trick does actually work! Simply grab your pillowcase of choice, pop it in a bag and then pop the bag into the freezer for 15 minutes and voila, there’s now no need to repeatedly find the ‘cool side’ of your pillow during the night.
Keep your curtains and blinds shut: The simplest tip of them all – keeping your curtains and blinds closed throughout the day will provide you with some major benefits when it comes to hitting the hay. By doing so, you’ll ensure that the heat from the sun doesn’t shine through into your bedroom, causing it to overheat.
Swap out the heavy duty duvets for lighter, airy sheets: We know you might have some type of deep, emotional attachment to your favourite nighttime duvet but it’s time to opt for a sheet and say goodbye to your beloved comfort blanket this season. Simply remove the sheet from your duvet and use the sheet to sleep with, we promise it’s a game changer!
Stay hydrated: Our final tip is to stay hydrated throughout the day. Many people don’t realise that drinking water regularly during the daytime, leads to a cooler night’s sleep during the night time. So, nextime you decide to skip that extra refill of your favourite water bottle, remember that this too, could lead you to a deep, delightful slumber…

Candles have long been a household staple in many homes, whether you’re into super sweet scents or fresh and fruity wax’s, you’ll know that lighting a candle at the end of the day really helps to set the tone of your room. If you’re left with empty candle jars and not sure what to do with them, then just follow our guide to 5 ways you can reuse your candle jars…
Cleaning your candle jar
If you’re wanting to reuse your candle jar then it’s best you give your empty pot a good clean! To clean and empty your jar, begin with scooping out as much wax as possible from the jar, then followed by a good soak in soapy warm water. Once you’ve done that your jar should be clean and you’re good to go!
1. Pencil Pot
If you’re like us then you probably have a whole lot of stationary and not enough storage! Worry no more, just grab your taller candle jar and use it as a funky pencil pot. You can even begin decorating your jar to add a little extra umph to your desk. Make sure you use the correct paint that works well on glass. If you’re looking for inspiration for candle pot designs, try adding some multicoloured polka dots or a bold cow print and your desk is sure to make heads turn at the office!
2. Makeup brush holder
Makeup brushes do wonders for our cosmetic routines but they’re also a nuisance to find suitable storage for, after all there’s so many different shapes and sizes, where do we begin? If you’re not in the mood for embellishing your jar then it’s best to purchase a beautifully decorated candle, use the wax then clean the jar and pop your makeup brushes in. We’re loving this Shearer Lemon Zest Candle right now, it’s bright yellow in colour and smells amazing too, what more could you want?
3. Plant Pots
Whilst you may love having extravagant planters in your living room, you’ll know that they come with a hefty price tag too! That’s why reusing your candle jar isn’t just beneficial for the environment, it’s cost-friendly also. We recommend using a large three wick candle, this ensures that the plant isn’t too big for the jar. If you’re feeling creative then add some moss and gravel to your jar, followed by a cute succulent – we promise you’re going to adore it!
4. Tealight holder
Whilst you may have lost your favourite candle, you can replace it with a tealight instead. Tealights are cheap and easy to get hold of. Whether it’s a warm vanilla tealight or a berry fusion one, you can easily pop one into your jar and leave your room smelling and looking great!
5. Make your own candle
Finally the last one on our list is making your own candle. You’re probably wondering where do I even begin? First you need to start off with a wick, just trim the wick to be a few inches taller than your jar. Then use a hot glue gun to stick the metal disk on the wick to the bottom of the jar. Next you need to grab some wax and melt it, follow this with the fun part – adding colour and scent. Finally pour the wax into your jar, sit back and wait!
Don’t let the word “facial” fool you. Facials can be applied to almost any part of the body including your hands! Whilst you’re familiar with the smoothing, soothing benefits of a facial, you’re probably not aware of the amazing benefits a hand facial can provide, and following a year of reapplying anti-bac, it’s time you got to know all about it…
What Is a Hand Facial?
Hand facials are extremely similar to the facials you get done to your face. The treatments generally begin with a light massage and a cleanse to make sure any bacteria and oil has been eliminated from the skin. After that it typically involves using an exfoliating product on the skin, eliminating a lot of the dead skin cells and creating a fresh base. Finally the hand facial ends with a hydrating hand cream to give your hands the moisture boost it needs.
Step 1: Cleanse Away
Kick things off with a gentle cleanse. Most sanitisers and hand soaps are fresh but harsh on the skin, the ingredients are often synthetic and contain chemicals that aren’t kind to your hands. The alcohol they contain is perfect for killing bacteria but it also can be extremely drying and strip your skin of its moisture. So a gentle, clean formula with nourishing ingredients is best. Try out the Nesti Dante Paradiso Tropicale Coconut and Frangipani Soap, infused with a floral fruity scent and smoothing ingredients, it’s perfect for your hand cleanse!
Step 2: Exfoliate
Who doesn’t love a good facial exfoliation? We know we do! Exfoliating your hands is extremely satisfying too. A delicate exfoliation can polish away dead skin cells, revealing smoother, softer hands and who wouldn’t want that. Start off with your choice of exfoliation product, here at FD we’re loving the DECLEOR 1000 Grains Body Exfoliator Super Size. This indulgent scrub helps provide your skin with a velvety-smooth finish. Enriched with grapefruit essential oil and pearl sugar, it gives it a fresh, invigorating fragrance. Exfoliate away!
Step 3: Hydrate & Moisturise
Our favourite part of a hand facial – the moisturising step! As a rule people tend to forget about their hands and don’t moisturise as much as they should do. If your hands are feeling neglected in the hydration department then make sure to follow this step carefully. Apply a thick layer of a soft hand cream. We recommended the Australian Bodycare Hand Cream, this vegan cream features natural ingredients and has been dermatologically tested too. If you’re feeling brave then pop an old pair of clean socks on top of your hands to lock all of the moisture in, leaving your hands to soak up all the nutrients!

How To Use Rice Water For Your Hair:
Firstly you’ll need a cup of water and a cup of rice. Begin by washing and cleansing the rice with tap water to remove any impurities. This ensures that dirt and debris are removed, if it helps, use a strainer to wash the rice.
Next, drain the rice and put it into a bowl, add water and mix them together. Continue mixing until the water becomes cloudy.
After 30 minutes, strain the rice and keep the water in a covered plastic container. Let the water sit for over 12 – 24 hours to ensure the vitamins and minerals drain out.
After shampooing, apply the rice water as a conditioner, massaging it gently all over your scalp. If you want to see the best results then leave it on for 20 minutes on your hair.
Finally, rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water afterwards and enjoy your fresh, shiny locks!
Fancy an at-home facial massage that reduces facial puffiness and soothes the skin? Gua sha has you covered! Gua sha is the hottest self-care and skin-boosting technique right now, popular on Tiktok, we’re here to talk you through the dos and don’ts of the popular ancient natural therapy…
What Is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a treatment traditionally used in Chinese and East Asian medicine. “Gua means press, and ‘Sha’ means sand – it’s a treatment that consists of dragging a flat rose or jade quartz stone over the skin in strokes to relax stiff muscles and promote tissue drainage. At first, the results don’t look the best, it leaves you with redness and bruising as your face heals. However, after a few months you should see dramatic results!
Although gua sha facial videos have been the top trend on Tiktok, you can do gua sha on the face, body and even the scalp. Begin by starting with an oil, never on bare skin, the oil helps the tool to easily glide across the skin, ensuring you don’t cause any damage to the skin cells.
Gua sha is done relatively gently (you’re in control of the pressure and the shape of the tool you use), we recommend avoiding this technique if you are prone to broken capillaries or acne breakouts.
How Often Should You Gua Sha?
To ensure that you receive the best results, be sure to gua sha once per day. However experts say that you can still experience the benefits of this facial massage technique if you do it two, three times a week.
Which Gua Sha Tool Should I Use?
If you do a quick internet search you’ll probably find yourself on a page filled with 100’s of gua sha tools, it all can become slightly overwhelming! Jade is one of the most popular options, Jade is known for its balancing effects and its ability to soothe and de-puff facial features whilst clearing inflammation. Another good option is rose quartz, it’s especially good to use on the neck and chest! Whatever you go for, you’re going to see the benefits.
How To Use A Gua Sha
1. You can use a gua sha on the face, body and scalp, and it’s best to use this alongside your preferred choice of oil.
2. Hold the gua sha tool with the curved side to your face and glide it gently up and out, starting with the neck, jawline, chin and around the mouth, between three and five times per area. Always take short strokes in just one direction, not back and forth.
3. Next, press the tool flat to the skin, under the eyes or over any redness, to soothe and de-puff.
4. Work the tool in small horizontal strokes over the brow bone to lift, or hold and press upwards between the brows to release tension.
5. Stroke down the neck, never upwards, to drain fluid.
6. If you want to reduce puffiness, work lightly, then more firmly, to relax muscles.
I’m sure you know how important creating the perfect skincare routine for your face is but it isn’t the only routine you should be doing! It’s understandable – after all your face is a priority and everybody sees it, but body care is a must, too. It’s time to transform your body into a glowy smooth texture, just like your face!
If your body care routine currently consists of washing up with a standard shower gel and sparingly applying a layer of lotion on, then it’s about time you created the ultimate skin care routine for your body. Not sure how? Not to worry, we’ve created an easy step by step routine that will ensure your body is soft, smooth and 100% hydrated!
Step 1: Cleanse
If you’re already following a regular skin care routine for your face then you’ll probably know the full importance of ensuring that you wash your face day and night! Whether you’re dealing with your hands, face or even your legs, the best way to kick things off is by starting off completely clean. This means using a cleanser meant specifically for washing your body, we recommend opting for a gentle body wash that won’t irritate or dry out your precious skin. Pair this with your favourite cleansing tool – washcloth, loofah, or even just your hands, then make sure to rinse off before moving on.
Step 2: Exfoliate
Sometimes you might find it quite tricky exfoliating your face – fear of irritation, too much scrubbing or even just a bit messy! Thankfully, the skin on your body is better suited to exfoliation. Because your body is typically tougher than your face, you don’t have to be quite so careful about over scrubbing.
Be sure to exfoliate two or three times a week, exfoliate your body by adding your favourite scrub into your shower routine and gently massaging the scrub into your skin. Don’t forget to pay extra attention to those dryer patches e.g. knees, elbows and heels.
Step 3: Shave
If shaving is a part of your cleansing routine, then start by spending a little time in the shower – this will ensure that the water softens your skin ready for the application of your razor. Once you think it’s time to reach for the razor, go ahead and take it slow, applying shaving cream to your skin and carefully moving the razor with the grain instead of going against it.
Step 4: Hydration
Now it’s time for you to glow! While your skin is still wet from your previous shower steps, it’s an ideal time to hydrate your skin. Applying moisturiser to your body whilst still wet helps to fully lock in the moisture. Smooth your preferred lotion/cream over your body from neck to your toes, letting it absorb before putting your clothes on.
Step 5: Tan
This step is 100% optional – but if you’re one to delve into the world of tan then doing it after your body care routine will work wonders. If you want your body to be bronzed, smooth on your favourite tanning product that will help give your skin a gorgeous glow over time. Try doing this step 2-3 times a week, being sure to use sparingly around joints, to achieve an even streak-free tan.
We recommend trying out the Garnier Natural Bronzer Self Tan Mist For Body tan. This quick drying body self-tan mist is formulated with a unique blend of plant origin tanning actives and enriched with nourishing apricot oil, resulting in a natural looking, all year round golden glow with no orangey tones. The spray format is easy to use with 360° application that allows you to reach those tricky-to-tan areas like the feet, hands and back. The ultra-fine mist gives an even coverage that is streak-free.
