New Years Eve Makeup Inspo To Make You Sparkle

New Years Eve Makeup Inspo To Make You Sparkle

Party season is looking a little different this year – your dazzling dress has taken a backseat and you’ve swapped out your high heels for silky-soft slippers. But with more free time than ever, there’s no better way to experiment with your makeup than now!

We’ve gathered the most impressive looks we could find, just for you. So read on to recreate and earn all the compliments during your virtual New Years Eve party this year!

Go Bold Or Go Home

You might be under the impression that you can’t rock a bright and bold eye at the same time as a bold lip, but you’re wrong. Take it from Rihanna, nothing says NYE glam more than a sparkling OTT eye and a bright red lip. We recommend picking out colours that compliment each other and pack on the shadow using a fluffy blending brush. If you’re looking for the perfect palette then use La Roc’s Artistry Book Palette which includes every single shade you could ever need!

Bushy Brows

Our feeds are flooded with them and they’re so on trend right now, I think it’s safe to say we’re all a fan of those big and bold bushy brows, but some of us just weren’t blessed by the brow gods and they need a little extra help. That’s why the Maybelline Tattoo Brow Pomade Pot should be first on your list for those beautifully bold brows. Use this product first to fill in the gaps where the hair isn’t so thick. After that, use the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara, this foolproof formula coats brows in rich colour, helping you achieve a sleek and structured look.

Gloss And Repeat

The 90s are officially back and glossy lips are in full force. Say goodbye to matte lipstick and hello to lip gloss! Here at FD we’re obsessing over Sosu’s Lip Gloss that comes in seven different shades, so if you’re feeling fun, you could even switch up your colours throughout the night. If you’re looking for more of a defined lip, then line your lips with a nude liner of your choice!

Colourful Liner

Colourful and outrageous eye liners having been trending all year now, so what better way to try it out than New Years Eve! This look by dmv.makeupartistry on Instagram pairs a neon green eyeliner with a toned down, natural look to really make the eyes stand out. If you’re someone that struggles with liner then position a piece of tape by your eye as a stencil, then carefully place the product along the tape, this trick will help you nail your look every single time! Rimmels Wonderswipe Liner in the shade My Bae is perfect for this look!

Warm Golds

There really is no better time to rock all things gold than NYE. Here Gigi Hadid teams a sleek black liner with a glowing blend of warm golden tones. Pair your lids with a shimmering highlighter to really make your skin pop. Here at FD we’re obsessed with Maybelline x Gigi Hadid’s West Coast Strobing Liquid, finish your look off by adding a small amount to your cheekbones and nose.

Effortless Autumn/Winter Hairstyles

Effortless Autumn/Winter Hairstyles

The summer nights are no longer and these darker nights are beginning to make us wonder… will we ever leave the house with more than just a half-dried hair look? Luckily we have rounded up a selection of quick and easy hairstyles you can replicate at home with the use of just a comb!

Don’t get yourself in a muddle, just follow our small guide to autumn’s hottest looks. We’ll make sure that styling your hair will never be a struggle again!

1. Clip It Back

Go to town on your accessories with this functional and affordable look. Not only is it simple, it’s also the hottest hair trend this year, with every catwalk filled with pretty pearl clips, it’s a must-have addition to your lookbook. We recommend using the funkiest clips you can find, style your hair and then go wild! Don’t be afraid to mix and match with different sizes and textures, this will help to add a touch of personality to an otherwise casual look.

2. Mermaid Waves

Defeat the heat and use a sock to create effortless mermaid waves. Yes, you heard it right, using a pair of socks to wave your hair is so on-trend RN. Following a viral trend on TikTok, beauty fanatics have been curling their hair with the help of a little bit of water and a pair of their fave socks! So, save yourself and hit the snooze button  tomorrow, because you won’t need to spend 30 minutes trying to salvage your bodacious bed-head, just separate your damp hair into a few sections, then weave each section of hair in between each sock in a crisscross motion. Finish the look off in the morning with the texturizing salt spray to maximise volume and create a long-lasting effect.

3. Half Up Half Down

If your hair tends to get greasy, oily or frizzy, this look is the perfect way to deal with those extra oils. It works best on those days where you just can’t be bothered to wash your hair. Whether your hair is short, long or curly, just section the front of your hair and tie it back with a cute clip and a bobble and hey presto you’re all done!

4. Low Bun and Scrunchie

Hairstyle trends come and go, but the low bun is timeless. Whether you prefer your bun to be sleek or your bun to be slightly tousled, this classic look has you covered. Use a brush and either gel or pomade to pull back the hair into a bun, creating a clean, fresh finish. If you’re going for more of a relaxed feel, spray your hair with dry shampoo to create a lightweight texture, then, tie it back loosely and pull out a few strands to shape your face. Don’t forget to pop a cute scrunchie around your bun to really make your hair stand out from the crowd.

5. Scarf It

Say goodbye to wasting time in front of the mirror and hello to lie-ins this season with the trouble-free scarf look! Wear it on your head, tie your hair with it or even wear it around your neck for an oh so chic look. The scarf is a versatile way to turn that basic pony into a playful ponytail in just a few simple steps. Autumn is here, so be sure to match your scarf to the colours that appear this season…

Festive Glam Tutorial

Festive Glam Tutorial

We’re in December, which means it’s officially socially acceptable to walk around with bright red lips and glitter lids all day every day until the new year. Today, Steph from Cocochic is showing you her current go-to festive makeup look featuring products from the Fragrance Direct website.

As usual, the first step is to perfect the base using the W7 Singin in the Rain foundation and conceal any blemishes using the NARS Creamy Concealer – a brand new cult product that has just become available on the FD website!

Once you’ve created a flawless finish, set everything in place using the Daniel Sandler Invisible Veil Powder – an incredibly finely milled powder that gives almost an airbrushed finish to the skin.

Next, slightly sculpt the face using the Collection Contour Kit and add a subtle sheen to the skin using the Technic Strobe Kit. The more glitz, the better. It is Christmas remember!

For the eyes, set the lids in place using the light nude shade from the Technic Fashionita palette and blend a neutral brown shade into the crease to act as a transition shade. Deepen the outer corners by blending the burgundy shade on the outer corners using a fluffy brush, and add a pop of glamour by pressing the copper pigment from the palette onto your lids using a warm finger.

Smoke out the lower lash line and add Revlon’s Ultra Volume mascara to the top and bottom lashes to tie the entire look together!

Finish up with a slick of the NARS Pure Matte lipstick in Amsterdam for a party read pout.

Get The Look: Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala!

Get The Look: Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala!

When Kylie Jenner arrived at the Met Gala in a full-length Balmain gown and a full face of flawless makeup, we just knew we had to recreate the look. Think a perfected base, plump pout and layers of lashes in true KJ style. Here’s how to get the look yourself..

Start by smoothing out the skin using the W7 Porfection primer. Not only will this help to smooth out the skin, but it’ll also keep your makeup on your face all night long! Since the eyes are a huge part of this look, we’ve decided to skip the base (for now) and head straight for the eyeshadow. This is perfect if you’re just starting out with makeup, as it means you can be as messy as you like! Once you clean up with foundation and concealer afterwards, no one will ever know.

For the eyes, we’ve decided to use the Cargo Cosmetics Vintage Escape palette as it contains everything from subtle matte shades to seriously shimmery. Start by applying the shade ‘Harvest moon’ all over the lid to act as a base. Doing this will ensure the rest of your shadow blends seamlessly! Next it’s time to add that transition shade in the crease. The colour ‘Hot Cocoa’ is perfect for this as it’s a one-shade-suits-all kind of colour. Buff it into the crease to give the eyes a little extra definition. Don’t forget to smoke out the bottom lash line!
Now it’s time to have some fun with the eyes. Start by patting the shade ‘Crisp’ over the centre of the lid to give the eyes a subtle shimmer and then follow up with ‘Chestnut’ in the outer corner of the eyes to smoke it all out. Don’t forget to blend!
Next, using a slightly dampened brush (these shadows work so well when wet!) pick up a small amount of the ‘Crisp’ shade again and focus it on the inner corner of the eyes. This will help recreate that glittery look.

Now it’s time to add that super sharp cat eye. To do this we’re using the Bourjois Smokey Eye Effect Eyeliner in the shade Smoked Brown. The texture of this liner is really creamy – perfect for blending – but once it’s set, it’s there all night. Line the waterline using the pencil for that added smokey effect and follow up by roughly draw a line towards the end of your brow. Blend it out using the brush on the end.

What’s a Kylie Jenner look without layers of lashes? For this we’ve decided to use the Revlon Ultra Volume mascara in the shade Blackest Black. Add a few coats on both the top and bottom lashes for a fluttery look. And if that’s not enough? Add some falsies! To keep them looking natural, be sure to fill in the lash line with the shade ‘Black Crow’ from the Vintage Escape palette.

Now it’s time to work on that base! Kylie’s makeup was super glowy for the Met Gala, so we’ve opted to use the Bourjois Happy Light concealer, as it provides a natural, yet medium coverage effect. Complete the base by buffing in the Revlon Colourstay 24 Hour Foundation for a super HD finish.

Of course, we can’t forget about the contour. Using the darkest shade from the Technic Contour Stix Cream Crayons set, carve out the hollows of the cheeks. For extra dimension add the lightest contour colour to the high points of the face and blend, blend, blend! For an extra glow, lightly dust the BareMinerals Warmth bronzer over the face in a ‘3’ shape motion, and follow up by framing the face using the Revlon Brow Fantasy Pencil and Gel set. Set the look with the Clinique Blended Face Powder in the shade Invisible Blend. This will help secure the makeup whilst also adding a natural glow. Finish up with Rimmel’s Provocalips Lip Colour in the shade Skinny Dipping and you’re officially Met Gala ready!
