Sunscreen For Your Face

Sunscreen For Your Face

With summer around the corner, you’ll need to start thinking about sun creams. Rather than adding it as an afterthought, skin experts agree that sun creams should be part of your regular skincare routine. In fact, if you want to protect your skin against harmful rays, using a sun cream under your makeup and over your moisturiser is something you can do year-round. Just like a moisturiser, finding the right sun cream for your face comes down to understanding your skin type. Many brands make specific SPF face creams, so you can be sure they’ll give you a non-greasy look and they won’t clog your pores.

Sensitive skin

If your skin is prone to redness and breakouts, you’ll need a gentle SPF cream to protect and nourish without overloading your skin. Perhaps more than most skin types, sensitive skin can benefit from sun creams made specifically for your face. Products like Ultrasun’s Face Anti Ageing Sun Protection Sensitive SPF30 combines UVA and UVB protection with antioxidants, while effectively rebalancing moisture levels and reducing wrinkles. And for a bit of a colour lift, try their Tinted Anti Aging Formula SPF 30 Face for a healthy glow.

Dry skin

Getting an SPF cream that works in tandem with your moisturiser is the key to making your face sun cream work hardest. If you’re prone to drier skin, look for products that give you a moisture boost without clogging your pores. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF30 blends nourishing antioxidants with moisturising agents and sun protection. And NUXE’s Sun Delicious Cream For Face SPF30 is a non-greasy, moisture boosting cream with a gorgeous summer scent.

Lighter lotions
If you’d prefer something that feels completely weightless on your skin, opt for a lighter SPF fluid or cream for the face. Something like Piz Buin’s lovely Ultra Light Face Fluid SPF15 absorbs instantly into the skin, without leaving any greasy residue.

Face and body

For a cream that’s light enough for your face and perfect for your body too, bag something that does both jobs. The big benefit of creams like this is that you can slather it over your face, neck, shoulders, and any other exposed bits without buying two separate lotions. Clinique’s Solar Smart SPF15 Face & Body Cream is just one option, with its oil free, anti-aging formula.

High factor protection

For skin that burns easily, always go for the higher factors. It really will pay off in terms of protecting your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, and it will fight against the aging effects of the sun. Australian Gold Premium Coverage Face Sunscreen SPF45, Ecran Protective Fluid For Face & Neck SPF50+, and Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Neck & Face SPF50 all have high factors, and are gentle and nourishing enough to be used on your face.

Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum!

Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum!

Introducing the new BioLumin-C Serum from Dermalogica! We caught up with Dermalogica’s Education Executive Victoria Schofield to find out more.

Brighter skin from within

Dermalogica’s new BioLumin-C Serum is a revolutionary formula representing a new paradigm in Vitamin C efficacy. Whilst Vitamin C has been used for years in skin care, we took the opportunity to embrace new technology and research that allows us to finally harness the full power of Vitamin C and enhance the skin’s natural defence system to stop damage before it starts.

Not all Vitamin C formulas are created equal

As one of the most potent antioxidants available, Vitamin C is a true skin care powerhouse. It’s scientifically proven to tackle the biological processes that lead to skin ageing. These are Reactive Oxygen Species also known as free radicals, MMP enzyme activity and the reaction of sugar with skin proteins like collagen, known as Advanced Glycation End products. How are we exposed to these processes? Via environmental aggressors such as UV and pollution plus our lifestyle choices of smoking, diet, stress and lack of sleep. They all lead to the accumulation of molecular damage in the skin, ultimately affecting the skin’s integrity, resulting in premature ageing, fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

Advanced technology and powerful antioxidants like Vitamin C enable us to stop these biochemical reactions that trigger these structural changes, halting skin damage at its source. But when it comes to formulating with Vitamin C there are two important factors that influence its ability to deliver significant anti-ageing results.

Stability; Vitamin C must be stable in the product for it to remain active. Traditional forms of Vitamin C are easily oxidised when exposed to air, light or heat. You may have experienced your Vitamin C serum turn brown, this is evidence of oxidation which degrades the formulas efficacy.
Bioavailability; In order for Vitamin C to neutralise free radicals, firm and brighten the skin, it must get to where it’s needed, into the deeper layers of the skin. Many Vitamin C products are not optimised to achieve this.

BioLumin-C Serum ‘ the next generation of Vitamin C technology

BioLumin-C Serum combines an ultra-stable Vitamin C complex with advanced bio-technology to go beyond the skin’s surface, delivering the natural power of Vitamin C where it’s needed most. BioLumin-C Serum does more than simply brighten, firm and reduce the appearance of fine lines, it optimises skin’s own defences to give brighter skin from within!

Why you need BioLumin-C Serum

In today’s world, skin damage is a daily reality, in fact as much as 50% of ageing comes from external factors such as UV, pollution and lifestyle factors. Vitamin C is proven to fight the stressors that cause the damage and this high performance serum represents a new generation of Vitamin C products that works with the skin’s own defences for firmer and more radiant skin.

How it works

Advanced bio-technology fuses two forms of ultra-stable Vitamin C with Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 along with Lactic Acid, Sophora Japonica Flower and Chia Seed Oil to fight oxidative stress and the appearance of ageing. The hydrating, non-sticky serum sinks beautifully into the skin to brighten, firm and defend.

How to use it

Simply dispense a few drops from the dropper and smooth onto clean skin after spritzing with your hydrating toner. Antioxidant Hydramist complements BioLumin-C Serum perfectly as it creates a
hydrating, antioxidant shield over skin to help reduce fine dryness lines and prevent the signs of ageing. Follow with your moisturiser, remembering to use a SPF in the daytime to protect against skin damaging UV rays. Try Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 for a broad spectrum, high level of protection with added peptides and age fighting botanicals.

Optimise your skin’s natural defences for brighter skin from within! Coming soon on the 14th June!

Korean Skincare

Korean Skincare

Anyone who’s in the know when it comes to beauty trends will have heard of the Korean Skincare routine. But as experts tout the benefits this 10-step process has for our skin, us normal folk may be wondering how to slot such an intensive regime into more hectic lifestyles. Not to mention budgeting for extra products to complete the job.

The good news is that you can condense it down. The trick is understanding where our usual day-to-day beauty products slot in. By using them at the right time, you could supercharge your existing skincare routine for a glowing, youthful complexion.

In the morning, advocates of the routine only wash with water. But, in the evening the cleaners come out! An oil-based cleanser first, followed by a water based cleaner. The first works harder on makeup and daily grime, the second removes the residue of oil and impurities. For oils, check out products like Elemis’s Nourishing Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil, or AA Skincare’s Rosemary & Olive Deep Cleansing Oil. Water based cleansers include Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing.

Worked into the night time routine after cleansing, a twice-weekly exfoliation is said to brighten skin, allow products to absorb into the skin more easily, and unblock pores. Finding a gentler exfoliator is the recommended Korean way, so look to products like Bourjois’ Radiance Boosting Face Scrub Bamboo Bead & Orange.

Toning follows next in the evening, and straight after you’ve washed your face with water in the morning. Toner is used to balance pH levels and allows your moisturising products to absorb easier, and this is exactly why it’s used both morning and night. Check out lovely products like Dermalogica’s Multi Active Toner, and Guinot’s Lotion Hydra Fraicheur Toning Lotion for all skin types.

Essence, serums and ampoules

In the full, 10-step routine, essence, which straddles the line between toners and serums comes next. Ampoules are another step, just after applying essence. Packed with active ingredients, they’re designed to give tired skin a boost. To simplify the process, make sure you do apply a serum however. This comes after essence and ampoule if you’re following the regime to the letter, or after your toner for a quick cheat. Applied morning and evening, serums like Balance Vitamin C Power Serum, and Cougar Platinum Snow Algae Facial Serum act against wrinkles and dehydration.

Sheet masks

Part of the night time regime only, sheet masks feature big on the list for faithful followers of the Korean way. Try out scrumptious sheet masks to give you a big moisture boost like Derma V10’s Anti Ageing Woven Face Mask with collagen.

Eye creams

Don’t forget to add a good eye cream to your collection if you’re serious about reaping the benefits from this routine. Your eye area has delicate skin and needs a moisture boost both morning and night. Products like L’Oreal’s Youth Code Eye Cream and 10 Years Younger Caviar Anti Aging Eye Cream are just two to check out.

Moisturisers and SPF

Last but not least, don’t forget your moisturiser! Make sure your skin is hydrated during the day, but also during the night as its the perfect time for your face to absorb all the benefits that night creams have in offer. Soothing moisturisers like Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Skin Protectant Cream are ideal. In the day, also top up on sun cream after moisturising. Even if the weather’s bad, the Korean advice is to add a high factor SPF each and every day. Plus, scented products like Australian Gold’s Sun Lotion SPF 50 will give you a summery feel all year round.

Travel Beauty Essentials

Travel Beauty Essentials

It is so hard to make sure you pack all your beauty products when you’re heading off on a trip, you’re almost guaranteed to forget at least one thing. There’s a chance you can pick up the basics while you’re away, but you can be sure you won’t find your favourite moisturiser or eye cream in the local shop. So, we’ve put together a handy checklist to make sure you pack all the essentials!

For the plane

So first up there are a few beauty essentials you need for on the plane. You need these in your hand luggage so make sure you pick up the less than 100ml options.

This may not be everyone’s favourite tip but try not to wear any makeup for your flights. You will need to reapply products throughout the duration and they just won’t do the job if you’re slapping them on over layers of foundation.

The air systems on flights literally suck all the moisture out of your skin so a good moisturiser is absolutely essential. Look for a product that is thick and nourishing as you need something that will take longer to absorb and keep your skin hydrated throughout the flight. We love the Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal Moisturising Cream.

A lavender pillow spray is a bit of a luxury but if you’re flying long haul it can really help you relax and get some sleep. Try the Anatomicals Lavender Pillow Spray, it smells divine!

When you’re coming to the end of your flight you’re probably feeling a little bit worse for wear. To keep the liquids to a minimum, pick up a pack of Johnsons and Johnsons Facial Wipes to give you a quick refresh before you land. And don’t forget a handy roll on deodorant too, the Sure Women Max Protection Stress Control is super affordable.

The Hotel

So now you’ve reached your destination and can fully relax!

Hotels will often provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc. but I always fine it best to take your own. You don’t know the quality or brands they stock, and they don’t usually cater for specific hair types, skin types etc.

So don’t forget shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

Now this is a biggie’ sun cream! There is nothing more important than keeping your skin protected in the sun. You should be wearing an SPF daily anyway but being exposed to the sun more abroad you need to make sure you’re regularly applying. We have a great Piz Buin bundle on offer at the moment which gives you two 1 Day Long Sun Lotions, an SPF 15 and SPF 30 and an After Sun all for £16.99!

Body lotion, moisturisers, after sun’ After a day in the sun, sea or swimming pool your skin is definitely going to need a bit of recovery. Make sure you pack lots of body lotion to rehydrate and smooth your skin and slap it on every evening after you’ve showered. This also helps prolong your tan and stop any peeling! The Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe is perfect to calm the skin after a day in the sun.

It’s also still really important to keep up with your daily skincare regime while you’re on holiday. Lots of us prefer to go au naturale in the day while we’re away which is a great break for your skin, but this doesn’t mean you stop cleansing, toning and moisturising. So make sure you pack all your regular products!

Hotels will usually provide you with a hair dryer (make sure you check before leaving yours at home!) but they very rarely offer straighteners, curling wands or any heat brushes so make sure they get a place in your suitcase! Add in a salt spray to your toiletries bag to give you those gorgeous beachy waves day and night, we love the Toni & Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray.

Ok so the Gillette Venus Snap Razor might just be my favourite travel item. It’s super small and very portable, I mean that extra space makes all the difference when you’re packing! It’s perfect for keeping you super smooth in a snap.

Let us know where you’re jetting off to this summer, we’re already super jealous!
