FD Presents : Face Masks

With everyone coveting the dewy skin trend at the moment, healthy and hydrated skin is essential. We all know we have to cleanse, tone and moisture daily and that drinking plenty of water is key but sometimes our skin just needs that extra pick me up’ cue face masks!

Face masks are amazing for making us feel like we’ve had a chilled and relaxing pamper session but they also work wonders for the complexion! These game changing, moisture boosting masks are fundamental to your skincare routine and applying one once a week will make the world of difference.

When choosing a mask you need to consider your skin type as there are different characteristics to look out for in the formulas. You need a mask that is going to fulfil the needs of your skin and not work against it. We’ve rounded up a save and splurge option for each skin type.
When choosing a mask you need to consider your skin type as there are different characteristics to look out for in the formulas. You need a mask that is going to fulfil the needs of your skin and not work against it. We’ve rounded up a save and splurge option for each skin type.

Dry skin tends to be dull, tight and a bit flakey so to counteract this you need to use a product with plenty of hydrating qualities to replenish skin with moisture. Hydrating masks tend to be similar to think creams or gels and are often overnight products that need the time to fully soak in and boost skin’s moisture.
We recommend Clinique’s Moisture Surge Overnight Mask if you want to splurge. This overnight mask protects from dehydration and encourages skin to hold in soothing, nourishing moisture. With a 100ml tube you can be sure you’re getting plenty of product for your cash!
This Purederm Ultra Hydrating Shea Butter Coconut Mask is amazing for giving you a quick, intense moisture boost. It contains coconut blended with ultra rich Shea Butter to seal in moisture and soften the skin. This is a single use product so perfect if you’re looking to improve your skin on a budget!

Oily skin is typically shiny, has enlarged pores, excess blemishes and blackheads. These effects can be helped dramatically by a face mask that is clay or mud based. The clay draws out impurities and soaks up excess oil which will prevent shine and reduce the appearance of pores.0054243_l
We recommend this Kaeso Beauty Deep Cleansing Mask. It is formulated to remove impurities and reduce excess oil whilst also detoxifying clogged pores to leave skin feel cleansed and tightened. This mask is deeply therapeutic and rejuvenating so slap on a thick layer and relax for 15 minutes to let it work it’s magic. At £5.99 we think this product is a bargain!
If you’re looking to indulge a little more this Decleor 2 in 1 Purifying and Oxygenerating Mask is amazing for those of you with oily skin. It is a face mask with the added benefit and effectiveness of a scrub. It purifies and rebalances to leave skin soft but mattified. It also replenishes oxygen to the skin which revives the complexion to leave you looking radiant.

As an aging nation there are more and more of us who are looking rewind the clock when it comes to the skin. Sun exposure and the environment all take its toll on our skin but masks can be really effective at reducing fine lines, wrinkles, dryness and sagging skin. A replenishing mask is the best for reducing the signs of aging as they stimulate collagen and replenish the nutrients in the skin.
We recommend this Korres Wild Rose Peeling Mask if you’re looking to save those pennies. It’s an intensive peeling mask with Pomegranate enzymes that smooth fine lines and counteract discolouration to give your skin instant radiance.
This skinChemists Venom Mask dramatically improves the appearance of the skin as it contains the wrinkle preventing peptide Syn-ake with hyaluronic acid. These two ingredients work together to plump the skin and minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Your skin will feel firmer and more radiant after just one use! With the higher price tag this is definitely one if you’re looking for a little treat!

FD Presents : Sun Care Saviours

FD Presents : Sun Care Saviours

Whether you’re jetting off somewhere glamourous abroad or having a relaxing staycation at home, sun cream is the most important essential in our suitcase and vanity cases. And we need to make sure we have nothing but the best to keep our skin protected this summer. Everyone knows that the sun’s rays is the biggest skin ager out there, so making sure you regularly use a good SPF to keep yourself looking youthful.

Now there’s so many creams and gels on the market that it can difficult to know which one to pick. The SPF you require will be depend on your skin type however the NHS recommends using at least a SPF 15 at all times and to stay out of direct sunlight between 11am and 3pm. SPF measures how much time in the sun your skin can take without burning, so if your skin normally burns after 15 minutes unprotected an SPF 15 will allow you to stay in the sun 15 times longer. People with paler natural skin tones need the most protection to prevent sun burn, either an SPF 50 or 30 should be used at all times. People with medium natural skin with olive undertones should still use an SPF 30 on areas they are worried about premature aging e.g. face, hands and neck but could use an SPF 15 on their bodies, as long as it is regularly topped up throughout the day. Finally people with dark skin should use an SPF 15 and it is never recommended to go out without sun protection.

With so many to choose from we’ve rounded up our favourite sun creams to make it easy for you this summer.

Piz Buin 1 Day long SPF30 100ml
For skin that gradually tans this sun lotion has technology that provides up to 6 hours of long lasting protection. It is formulated to last longer than your average sun cream, however do not be fooled, it may say 1 day long but you need to make sure you regularly reapply if you are out in direct sunlight or in and out of a pool. It has added vitamin E which helps neutralise the skin and prevent premature skin ageing. This lotion is non greasy and quick to absorb, a winner for us as there’s nothing worse that feeling sticky and slimy on a beach!

Garnier Ambre Solaire Light & Silky Protection Lotion SPF50 200ml
This Garnier SPF 50 is perfect for skin that burns very easily as it provides a high SPF. It protects the skin against the sun’s harmful effects but is also ultra-light in texture and doesn’t feel heavy or chalky on the skin which other high SPF products can do. It absorbs quickly and is non greasy. With an added bonus of protecting against UVB and UVA rays due to an advanced filtration system. This cream is great for kids to give you that high SPF but is also quick and easy to apply.

Australian Gold Spray Gel SPF15 237ml
Australian Gold Spray Gel contains exotic oils that help soften and moisturise the skin whilst also giving you that necessary sun protection. It is perfect for achieving a natural and gradual tan and a firm favourite with us here at the office! The formula smells fresh and is really easily absorbed so you can regularly top up without feeling like you are coating your skin in tons of lotion.

Piz Buin Tan & Protect Tan Accelerating Oil Spray SPF30 150ml

This tan accelerating oil is perfect for those of you who love that golden goddess tan. It is amazing for keeping you safe in the sun and giving you that gorgeous colour quickly so you can make every moment in the sun count! The spray contains Melitane which is proven to enhance the natural tanning process and increase the body’s production of its natural tanning pigment to enhance your tan quickly.

This Malibu Sun Lotion is a classic and has been around for years and it smells amazing! Easily absorbed and offering a high SPF it is a staple for your suitcase. It also has a high water resistant quality which means you’ll still be protected when splashing around in the pool or swimming in the ocean!

All these sun protection products need to liberally applied and repeated throughout the day to keep that tan golden rather than red!

Get The Look: Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala!

Get The Look: Kylie Jenner at the Met Gala!

When Kylie Jenner arrived at the Met Gala in a full-length Balmain gown and a full face of flawless makeup, we just knew we had to recreate the look. Think a perfected base, plump pout and layers of lashes in true KJ style. Here’s how to get the look yourself..

Start by smoothing out the skin using the W7 Porfection primer. Not only will this help to smooth out the skin, but it’ll also keep your makeup on your face all night long! Since the eyes are a huge part of this look, we’ve decided to skip the base (for now) and head straight for the eyeshadow. This is perfect if you’re just starting out with makeup, as it means you can be as messy as you like! Once you clean up with foundation and concealer afterwards, no one will ever know.

For the eyes, we’ve decided to use the Cargo Cosmetics Vintage Escape palette as it contains everything from subtle matte shades to seriously shimmery. Start by applying the shade ‘Harvest moon’ all over the lid to act as a base. Doing this will ensure the rest of your shadow blends seamlessly! Next it’s time to add that transition shade in the crease. The colour ‘Hot Cocoa’ is perfect for this as it’s a one-shade-suits-all kind of colour. Buff it into the crease to give the eyes a little extra definition. Don’t forget to smoke out the bottom lash line!
Now it’s time to have some fun with the eyes. Start by patting the shade ‘Crisp’ over the centre of the lid to give the eyes a subtle shimmer and then follow up with ‘Chestnut’ in the outer corner of the eyes to smoke it all out. Don’t forget to blend!
Next, using a slightly dampened brush (these shadows work so well when wet!) pick up a small amount of the ‘Crisp’ shade again and focus it on the inner corner of the eyes. This will help recreate that glittery look.

Now it’s time to add that super sharp cat eye. To do this we’re using the Bourjois Smokey Eye Effect Eyeliner in the shade Smoked Brown. The texture of this liner is really creamy – perfect for blending – but once it’s set, it’s there all night. Line the waterline using the pencil for that added smokey effect and follow up by roughly draw a line towards the end of your brow. Blend it out using the brush on the end.

What’s a Kylie Jenner look without layers of lashes? For this we’ve decided to use the Revlon Ultra Volume mascara in the shade Blackest Black. Add a few coats on both the top and bottom lashes for a fluttery look. And if that’s not enough? Add some falsies! To keep them looking natural, be sure to fill in the lash line with the shade ‘Black Crow’ from the Vintage Escape palette.

Now it’s time to work on that base! Kylie’s makeup was super glowy for the Met Gala, so we’ve opted to use the Bourjois Happy Light concealer, as it provides a natural, yet medium coverage effect. Complete the base by buffing in the Revlon Colourstay 24 Hour Foundation for a super HD finish.

Of course, we can’t forget about the contour. Using the darkest shade from the Technic Contour Stix Cream Crayons set, carve out the hollows of the cheeks. For extra dimension add the lightest contour colour to the high points of the face and blend, blend, blend! For an extra glow, lightly dust the BareMinerals Warmth bronzer over the face in a ‘3’ shape motion, and follow up by framing the face using the Revlon Brow Fantasy Pencil and Gel set. Set the look with the Clinique Blended Face Powder in the shade Invisible Blend. This will help secure the makeup whilst also adding a natural glow. Finish up with Rimmel’s Provocalips Lip Colour in the shade Skinny Dipping and you’re officially Met Gala ready!

Top Tanning Tips

Top Tanning Tips

We’re finally coming into summer and we all want to get a bit of colour on our pasty limbs! To avoid those tell tale fake tan signs we’ve rounded up some top tips for becoming a bronzed golden goddess and avoiding a streaky patchy mess!

1. Use a good exfoliator first and foremost to get rid of all dead skin, dry areas and basically anything tan can cling to. Concentrate on all the tricky tanning areas, elbows, knees, ankles and neck.
2. Moisturise the night before rather than immediately prior to tanning. This gives your skin chance to soak in all the product and let it work its magic on those dry areas. An Aloe Vera based product will be best for this.
3. Don’t wax immediately before tanning. This will open the pores and leave you with that speckled, uneven look.
4. Remove all traces of makeup, perfume and deodorants so you have a clean base for the tan.
5. Make sure you use a product that is right for your skin type, if you’re particularly dry go for a lotion rather than a mousse as this will give you the most hydration and leave your skin smooth.
6. Apply Vaseline or a balm product to the hairline and eyebrows to create a barrier for the tan.

7. When tanning the face, mix with a moisturiser to give a slightly toned down finish and reduce the risk of irritation.
8. If you’re a tanning novice always opt for a mousse product. It’s easier to apply and you can see where the product is going to leave a more even finish.
9. Always use a latex glove or a mitt when apply your tan. The rusty palm look is never a good one!
10. Use cotton wool pads right at the end to apply tan to the backs of your hands. It will keep the product even and it’s easy to make sure you’ve got in all the nooks and crannies without getting product on your palms.
11. If you have to put clothes on straight away make sure you opt for dark, loose clothing to hide any transfer. But always try to give yourself at least 15 minutes for the tan to set on your skin!
12. Once you’re all bronzed and glowing keep up with the moisturising to make it last as long as possible. Opt for a moisturiser with a gradual tanner to keep the colour topped up.

13. If you’ve woken up with patchy, streaky tan don’t panic all is not lost! Have a long hot shower with an exfoliating mitt or a loofah and then moisturise. Repeat if you’re not quite streak free after the first attempt.
14. If removing the tan entirely is the only option, mix lemon juice with a small amount of baking soda and saturate your skin with the solution. Let it sit for 5 minutes and then rinse. This should remove all traces of the tan.
