Around Christmas time, gold has always had its own ‘moment’. Christmas inspired make-up collections can’t wait to showcase their limited edition gold shades and make-up tutorials are brimming with lots of ideas on how to create the perfect gold look. So what is it about gold that makes it such a versatile shade for the festive season?
Traditionally, gold represents opulence and wealth, which is definitely something we want to mirror in our Christmas make-up look. Although you may think gold is a little cliché around this time of year, it really makes your look stand out, especially against the doom and gloom of winter. Gold is also a universal shade which works well with a range of skin and eye tones, making it a multi-functional beauty product.
Gold is a great shade that can be worked into lots of different types of make-up: eye shadow, lipgloss, bronzer, nail polish and now you can even incorporate it into your every day fragrance. Instantly making you feel glamorous and party ready, gold is going to become your new best friend in the lead up to Christmas.
Smoke It Up
Eye shadow is the most common way of working gold into your make-up look. It is completely acceptable over the holiday season to glitz and glam up your eyes with that extra sparkle. Rimmel Glam Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in the shade ‘Heart of Gold’ is a little compact with a lot of variety. Included in this eye shadow quad is four different shades of gold and amber that you can work across your eyes individually or collectively to create the bronzed goddess look. We recommend using a regular eye shadow brush to sweep the light gold shade all the way across the lid, stopping just below the brow bone. Then taking a blending brush, add the dark amber shade to the crease and work the colour outwards to create a smokey effect with a gold twist.
Bronze Is The New Gold
Whoever said bronzers were a thing of the summer got it wrong. The great thing about bronzers this season is that the majority of bronzing products contain gold flakes within their formula, so that when they’re blended across the skin, a natural yet effective sheen is created with the ease of one stroke. Rimmel’s Sunshimmer Shimmering Bronzer contains three different bronzing shades, designed to suit a range of skin tones. Use a large bronzing brush to effectively pick up the bronzing product. Before applying the bronzer, take the majority of it off on the back of your hand – this means that when you apply the product, there won’t be that risk of applying too much product. After all, it’s a lot easier to build the product up gradually than have to take it off and start all over again. Focus on contouring your face under the cheek bones, the temples, down the nose and along the neck to blend the look in evenly.
‘Nails take any old outfit and make it new’
When the temperature drops below freezing, it is so comforting to know that we can jump into our favourite all-black-outfit because, let’s admit it, it’s quick, easy and accommodating. With that in mind, a great way to add a touch of Christmas to your outfit is with your nails. Revlon’s Top Speed Nail Colour in the shade ‘Golden’ is a pretty shade of gold which is great for helping you to get into the Christmas spirit. Apply two coats of this product to really get that pop of golden colour.
Shine Bright Like A Diamond
Lip gloss – the ultimate make-up tool over the Christmas season. Glistening lips have never been more on trend and they’re a great way to attract attention to your lips. Gold isn’t just restricted to eye shadows and bronzers; it works well on your lips as well. Astor Shine Delux Jewels Lip Gloss in the shade ‘Golden Amber’ is a muted shade of gold which will add a nice glimmer to the lips, helping to create a glossy, sleek effect that still has that ‘Christmassy’ element.
Spray a Little Gold
So Paco Rabanne Lady Million may not contain real gold but its striking, gold packaging is a winner in our books. If you want to incorporate a rich element to your fragrance collection, then the Paco Rabanne Lady Million Gift Set is more than worthy. One of our best selling fragrances, Lady Million, features notes of raspberry, orange flower and jasmine, making it a wearable daytime scent that is ideal for any age group.
