Tips in the art of eyebrow plucking

Category: General

Eyebrow plucking is an art. Your eyebrows can have such a profound effect on your face, from making your eyes look larger to shaping your entire face, so if you get it very wrong the results may well be noticed.

As soon as you pluck your eyebrows, you will notice the red puffiness above your eye and for this reason, it is better to pluck your eyebrows before you go to sleep.

Using a small eyelash comb, run it through your eyebrows both ways to remove the loose hairs.

Always use tweezers that have a slanted edge because they grip hairs easily and are better for shaping eyebrows. The straight-ended tweezers are better used for removing loose strands of hair, because they do not painfully pinch the sensitive skin in the outer eye area as much as the slanted edged type.

Quick pluck tips:

Ensure bright light in the room.

Prime the area around the eyebrow before you pluck. Apply an anaesthetic or astringent eg, witch hazel.

If your eyebrow hairs are very long, it is possible to trim them down with manicure scissors before you pluck.

Pre-plucking, ensure that you brush your eyebrows into the right place as neatly as possible and when you apply the tweezers, gently tighten the area of skin with your finger tips so you do not pinch the sensitive eye area with the tweezers. It will also slightly reduce the pain of plucking.

Tweezers with a magnifying mirror and bright light are the perfect solution if you want great eyebrows.
Don’t have your eyebrows pointing upwards. It will make you look odd and probably make you look very angry, so don’t over pluck at the outer corners of your eyebrow.

Do not over pluck - overkill will only leave you looking hairless and odd.

If you do happen to catch or pinch your skin with the tweezers and either bleeding or redness occurs, immediately wash in cold water and if possible apply an eye cooling mask.

When you have finished, use pure tea tree oil or witch hazel and cotton wool to soothe the skin.
