The Beauty Rules that should be broken

Category: General

There are still many completely outdated beauty rules which no longer apply to our lives today, yet we still refer to them.

Some of these typically are:

Redheads can’t wear red

A number of years ago most red lipsticks contained a blue base which made them more of a pinkish colour when applied to the lips. In most cases, the pink in the lipstick then clashed with the very delicate and lighter pink undertones of what was typically a redhead’s complexion. Today, the types of reds used and the way they are made mean that there are no longer the same problems.

Oil free products are the only option for people with oily skin

“When you strip oil from your skin’s upper layers, it just prompts the skin to produce more oil, Unlike mineral oil, which sits on the surface and can clog pores, botanically based oils can actually help prevent blemishes, as they are quickly absorbed by the skin. This not only softens skin, but helps normalize oil flow.” says Susan West Kurz, president of Dr. Hauschka Skin Care

You must not tweeze above your eyebrows

If you do happen to have stragglers above your eyebrows it will create a shadow which results in the shape of your eyebrows looking less defined and cleanly plucked. It is wise you actually do pluck if necessary above your brow. A trick to making sure you do not make a mistake with your plucking is suggested by New York makeup pro Lea Siegel who says:

“Brush brows into place, then go over them with a white makeup pencil. Strays above the whitened area can be tweezed without disrupting the line of your brows. Pluck one hair at a time, using a good pair of tweezers.”
