Make-up colours - 2008

Category: Make-up

This year has seen the term ‘less is more’ applied to make-up fashion and this has been directly related to lip, blush and eye colours.

Spring of this year brought with it dramatic and fresh notes for make-up, as it does each year. Emphasis is always on freshness and making a statement. Spring of this year is where we saw two completely different looks alongside each other. One of these looks was the dramatic use of grey and soft ebony black applied to eyes and deep reds to lips and cheeks, in comparison to the completely natural look which involved a natural looking, light foundation with an elegant matt finish, a clear complexion and soft shades to lips and eyes.

This created the perfect contrast between day and night make-up looks.

The demand for complexions to be peachy and fashionable started in spring this year and the look was light foundation and not darker, caked foundation.

Skin was ‘the paler the better’ and earlier this year false tanning became a big ‘no’ in the fashion world. Strong coloured shades for skin were definitely out.

As the year progressed the ‘less is more’ rule changed in favour of the ‘more is more’ rule.

The mix of spring colours became more contrasted to delicate and strong shades on lips, eyes and cheeks. It became fashionable to use a strong and dramatic seasonal shade for either one of the three (eyes, lips, cheeks), to make one element ‘pop’ and to use nude make-up for the other two parts of the face. This was high street fashion a few months ago and still is currently.
