False Eyelashes
There is a legend in the beauty industry that says the movie director D.W. Griffith was the first to design false eyelashes. It was during 1916 whilst he was creating one of his motion pictures and his leading lady needed to have extremely long eyelashes that almost graced her cheeks with their length.
A very good wig maker was commissioned to create a set of eye lashes out of gauze and human hair. Unfortunately, whilst the eyelashes were a hit, the movie was a flop and the only thing that was remembered from it were the eyelashes. Griffith never made a claim to his discovery so his idea was stolen, simulated and altered over the course of decades to the products that we know today.
Ever since 1916 many celebrities and leading ladies have used false eyelashes. In the 60s Twiggy was a fashion icon and her eyelashes were part of her signature look.
When it comes to applying false eyelashes though it is something of an art form and you certainly need patience when attempting it.
As you decide from the huge variety of lashes that are available, make sure you know that individual lashes normally look the most natural, however, for a striking approach the whole eyelash strip works best. Some women will use individual lashes in the day and the full strip lashes at night.
You have to be careful with false eyelashes, because if they do look too long they can look very tacky. Trimming eyelashes or maybe choosing slightly shorter lashes, especially if you are a first timer, is the best thing to do. Also it is best to buy a few different pairs to experiment and find out what works best for you.
