Christmas gift traditions
As we approach November, Christmas is already on our minds. With only a couple of monthly pay cheques in most cases before the big celebration, it is time to start planning your Christmas gift list.
But how did the history of giving Christmas gifts come about? Over the ages it has changed but the celebration of Christmas as we know it today came from the Victorian age during the 1860s.
The Germans have two gift giving days. The first day for exchanging gifts is 5th December and this is typically for smaller gifts. The main gift giving celebration is 24th December. In Hungary, they consider their gifts to be given by Jesus and not Santa Claus. Poland is identical to Germany with the same two gift giving days. Spain has an additional tradition of giving gifts on 6th January, known as Epiphany in the bible. The Russians’ traditional gift giving day is New Year’s Eve.
It is very common to give a personal fragrance or skin care product at Christmas simply because it makes the person who receives the gift feel pampered and lets them know that much personal thought has gone into picking the gift - maybe they know your skin type, or they know your signature fragrance.
