Holiday Hair Tips

Holiday Hair Tips

While basking on a sunny beach can make you feel 100% refreshed and amazing, it can also seriously dry out your hair. There’s nothing worse than tackling frizzy, unmanageable hair while you’re enjoying an idyllic break in the sun. Or, dealing with the aftermath of dehydrated locks when you’re back to the daily grind.

Our solution? Work with the elements while you’re away to maximise your hair’s potential, and keep it hydrated throughout your trip to dodge the dreaded dehydrated disaster-bomb post-holiday. Here’s how:

Up the protection level

The sun’s rays don’t only damage your skin. They also zone in on your hair, drying it out and leaving it feeling brittle and delicate. Add to this the drying effect of the sea and chlorine in the pool, and you have the perfect recipe for a frizz ball.

If that’s not your ideal scenario, you’ll need to be clever about protecting your precious hair before you sink into that lounger or take the plunge in sea or pool. Check out gorgeously indulgent products like NUXE’s Sun Moisturising Protective Milky Oil For Hair, and the delicious Sexy Hair Vibrant Rose Elixir Hair & Body Dry Oil Mist.

Shampoo and condition like a pro

Whatever your usual hair type, you’ll need to increase the moisture levels during your holiday. More frequent washing due to sun, sea, and sun will also strip the hair of essential oils, so it’s worth looking for gentle cleansing shampoos and conditioners, especially if you have more delicate hair.

Some of our holiday favourites include Macadamia’s Natural Oil Rejuvenating Shampoo for its gentle cleansing agents and moisture-boosting properties, and Philip Kingsley’s Re-Moisturizing Shampoo. And for conditioners, work smart with Alba Botanica’s Coconut Leave-In Conditioner Mist, and Toni & Guy’s Prep Leave-in Conditioner.

Work with beachy locks

Beachy waves are one of the great perks of holiday hair. Laidback and effortlessly cool, they’ll add a summery dimension to those holiday selfies. All you need to do is find the right product to boost your natural wave and apply it to dry hair. No extra work required!

Sea salt sprays are our favourite for mermaid-like locks. Try out spritzing products like Derma V10’s Sexy Messy Hair Sea Salt Spray, or Schwarzkopf’s Got2b Beach Matt Texturizing Salt Spray. Depending on your hair type, you can play around with adding it from root to tip, or just through the ends.

Control oil

Oily roots can be a troublesome side effect during holiday-time. But with the right products in your suitcase, you’ll be able to banish heavy, oily roots and give your hair back its bounce.

Dry shampoos are one top way of tackling the problem. Products like Aussie’s Beach Mate Dry Shampoo gives you summery, revived locks, along with Batiste’s clever, texture boosting Instant Hair Refresh Dry Shampoo Fresh.

Wedding Makeup Looks

Wedding Makeup Looks

Wedding season is well and truly here! Check out makeup looks on somewhere like Pinterest and you’ll find billions (quite literally) of ideas to go at. That makes it the fastest way to both be inspired and feel totally overwhelmed. So, to give you a helping hand here’s our favourite wedding makeup looks for this year. Yes, they’re hot right now, but they’re also elegantly timeless, so with a few tweaks, you can adapt them to suit you.

Naturally beautiful

The natural look has been a winner at weddings since time began. Understated and chic, it’ll leave you looking fresh and glowing, and it will focus all attention on your gorgeous gown and accessories.

To give it a seriously up-to-date spin work on a dewy look for your skin. Start with a good primer, like Revlon’s Photoready Face Perfecting Primer to give your makeup staying power and your skin added luminosity. Use a sheer foundation on top like W7’s Sheer Foundation paired with a good, sheer concealer will give you that barely-there, flawless look.

From there, keep cheeks, lips and eyes minimalist and natural. Opt for warm, peachy tones for your cheeks, and shimmery neutrals like NYX Baked Eyeshadow in Lavish for your eyes. If you want to add a bit of definition to your lids, a soft brown eyeliner will work wonders, before adding a good sweep of mascara. Finally, a lip colour that closely matches your own will add definition to your pout.

Colour pop lips

A bold, red lip will always give you that ultimate wow-factor. To pull this look off with aplomb you’ll need to feel comfortable with a bright lip shade. Remember, on your big day feeling gorgeously ‘you’ is your top priority.

This look is simple to perfect with the right tools. Work on your base, with a good primer, foundation and concealer. Perfectly even skin is the secret to making your lip colour work even harder, and products like Calvin Klein’s CK One Mousse Concealer will help you do just that.

Keep eyes low key for maximum effect, using soft brown shadows and liners like Rimmel’s Special Eyes Precision Eye Liner in Rich Brown. And then onto your lips! Delectable, on-trend colours include Maybelline’s Superstay 14H Lipstick in Non-Stop Red, and Bourjois’ Colour Boost Lipstick in Red Sunrise.

Gorgeously glam

If you want to be a glamourous bride, a winged eyeliner look is just the thing. It’s a great way to emphasise pretty eyes and add a bit of edge to tried and tested wedding looks.

Keep it bang up-to-date by adding a strong, metallic eyeshadow colour, or go traditional and add the wings to a perfect, natural-looking base. First, make sure to even out your skin with a great foundation and concealer, along with a soft blush like the Maybelline Facestudio Blush in Rosewood. A good highlighter like the Sleek Barekissed Illuminator in Casablanca will boost that dewy-skin appeal too.

Now you’re ready for the wings! Use a good pencil in black to extend from the outer corner of your eye and trace the shape of the wing along your upper lid. We like products like Body Collection’s Retractable Eyeliner. Once you’re happy with the shape, colour in the wing and go back over it with a long-lasting liquid liner like L’Oreal’s Super Liner Ultra Precision Eyeliner in Black Gold. And don’t forget lashings of black mascara to finish the look.
