Layering Your Skincare – Do you know what comes first?

Layering Your Skincare – Do you know what comes first?

Applying our skincare should be pretty simple right? But with all the additions from serums, toners, targeted treatments and SPF it can get quite confusing to know what to apply and when.

However, you no longer need to worry! We’ve pulled together this handy guide that will help you layer your products for both your morning and evening routine with ease.

Day Time

Cleanse ‘ First up you need to awaken your skin with a refreshing cleanser. In the morning we prefer something citrusy and fresh to give your skin the boost it needs! Try the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel for this step.

Tone ‘ A toner is the perfect way to make sure you’ve swept away any impurities that might be left after cleansing. Your skin renews overnight and so sloughing away the dead cells with reveal fresher and brighter skin. We love the Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Gentle Hydrating Toner.

Serum ‘ Next up comes the serum, you can see we’re working from lighter to heaviest here. As serums tend to be thinner formulas, so they can be easily absorbed they need a clear pathway into the epidermis. These lotions deliver active ingredients deep into the pores and cannot penetrate through thicker creams. Make sure you choose a toner that will focus on your personal skin needs, whether that be anti-aging, brightening or pigmentation.

Eye cream ‘ Pat on an eye cream before you apply any moisturising products. The thinner skin around your eyes is more delicate than the rest of your face so it’s better to apply eye specific products directly. One of our favourites is the Murad Instant Radiance Eye Cream, it makes you look instantly more awake!

Moisturiser ‘ For the day time choose a light, hydrating moisturiser rather than something heavy. Opt for products that offer hydrating, hyaluronic, illuminating properties to give your skin a boost throughout the day. The Elemis Hydra-Boost Day Cream is gorgeous.

Oil ‘ You might be put off applying an oil in the day but if you really want to seal in all the goodness from the products you’ve applied, then it’s a step you can’t skip. A facial oil can penetrate face creams however a cream cannot penetrate an oil so make sure it’s towards the end of your routine! Try the Balance Me Rose Otto Face Oil if you have sensitive skin. .

SPF ‘ Do not skip this step even on cloudy days! The damage from low level exposure to UV rays is the main cause of premature ageing. SPF products must be applied right at the end of your routine otherwise it renders all your other products useless. We love the Yves Rocher BB Cream SPF 20 for a beautiful, fresh look.

Night Time

Pre Cleanse ‘ First up you need to focus on removing all the makeup and debris from the day. Use a micellar water or a oily melting balm to get rid of all traces of the day. The Simple Kind to Skin Micellar Water is super gentle around the eyes or try the Oilixia Gummy Cleanser to attract all the oil and dirt out of the skin.

Cleanse ‘ Once you’ve removed all the dirt and makeup you can move onto a second cleanse using a targeted cleansing product. This makes sure all traces of dirt are removed and properly cleans your skin. You can also use an exfoliating cleanser for this step to make sure your skin is primed for the next step. We love the Nuxe Aquabella Micro-Exfoliating Purifying Gel.

Acid Toner ‘ Incorporating an acid toner into your skincare will make a big difference to tone, appearance and clarity of your skin. These products are best for the evening as they work overnight to rid the skin of dead cells.

Treatments ‘ After toning is the best time to apply any targeted treatments, whether that be acne treatments, vitamin C products or retinol. You want to apply them on clean, exfoliated skin so they have the best chance of penetrating the layers of the skin so you wake up with a glow! If you suffer from breakouts the Dermalogica mediBac Overnight Clearing Gel works wonders!

Eye Cream ‘ Similar to your morning routine, apply an eye cream before your moisturiser. Make sure you use your fingers to lightly pat the products around the eye socket area, not directly under the eye or on the lid. If you want a specific treatment for your eyes try the Derma V10 Collagen Hydro Gel Eye Patches.

Moisturiser ‘ Massage in your night cream using upwards motions to improve the blood flow to the face, this gives your skin a mini work out to keep it tight. Night creams tend to be thicker in texture to really hydrate and replenish any lost moisture from the day. We love the L’Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renew Night Cream.

Oil ‘ Apply an oil as your last step at night to seal in all the goodness from the products you’ve applied. We’re currently obsessed with the Oilixia Skincare Amazonian Cacay Facial Oil.

The Proven Benefits of Skincare Oils

The Proven Benefits of Skincare Oils

Oil doesn’t have to mean grease! Who knew! Because of its texture many of us avoid using oily products on our skin but listen up. Fragrance Direct bring you beautiful lightweight products which will sink into your face leaving it soft and glowing, no grease in sight!

If the thought of putting oils on your face freaks you out, then think again! Even people with oily skin can benefit from using skincare oils in their routine. Facial oils help keep the skin healthy and hydrated because they replenish your skin’s natural oil content. Oils form a temporary barrier and feed the skin with the nutrients it needs to restore itself.

Keep reading to see more reasons why you need to add a facial oil into your skincare and which ones will work best for you’

1. They’re great for dry skin
This is one a bit of a no brainer, anyone with dry skin knows you’ll want to slap on as much moisture as possible to keep your skin hydrated. Facial oils can be even better at moisturising your skin than any creams as lotions as they tend to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin. Cougar Hyaluronic Acid Facial Oil is perfect to giving your skin a shot of hydration. Hello dewy skin’

2. They seal in all your other skincare products
Adding an oil in at the end of your skincare regime will seal in all the goodness you’ve just applied. The oil acts as a barrier to environmental factors and makes sure the products applied beforehand have the best opportunity to work their magic. You must apply an oil as your final product, as anything you put on top will not be absorbed at all.

3. They can reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Environmental factors such as pollution and free radicals play havoc with our skin and in particular ultra violet light. These factors all contribute towards premature ageing and wrinkles! Facial oils tend to be packed with antioxidant ingredients that prevent fine lines and wrinkles from forming. Apply an oil before bed if you’re scared of getting a greasy face in the day time, the ingredients will work to replenish any lost moisture and collagen. Try the Elemis Pro-Collagen Facial Oil as a night time pamper.

4. They are a natural source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Many facial oils use mineral oil to emulate the skin. Mineral oils act as a temporary skin barrier to prevent hydration from escaping . Natural oils help lock in any moisture in your skin along with fat-soluble vitamins and antioxidants that help improve the appearance of your skin over time. If you prefer to keep your skincare as natural as possible, a facial oil is a great moisturiser replacement. Try the Triology Certified Organic Rosehip Oil as it contains omega 3,6 & 9, essential fatty acids and antioxidants.

5. They are the perfect dewy skin makeup primer.
Facial oils get absorbed into the skin rapidly as they are drawn to any areas that need hydration the most, because of this the skin instantly looks more plumped and hydrated. The smoother your skin the better your makeup is going to look over the top. Applying a facial oil before your foundation will give you instantly dewy, glowing skin! One we love for pre-makeup application is the Cowshed Cranberry Seed Rejuvenating Facial Oil as it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy.

How To Fragrance Your Home

How To Fragrance Your Home

As the flowers start blooming outside and those temperatures slowly creep back up, it’s the perfect time to shop for a new home fragrance worthy of the spring and summer.

Ditching the warmer, heavier scents of the colder months will leave you feeling refreshed and give you a little mood-boost as you wait for the sun to make a more regular appearance. From candles to diffusers, and room sprays, there’s more than one way to pep up your home fragrance collection this season.

Candles

Perfect for lazy evenings in, at bath time, or even in the garden during those warm nights, a gorgeously scented candle is a must-have for any savvy home bird. For a true spring/summer vibe, choose fragrances that are light, natural and uplifting.

Plum & Ashby Lime And Ginger Travel Candle is just the thing for brightening even the gloomier corners of the home. Floris London’s Hyacinth & Bluebell Scented Candle brings you a hit of springtime flowers, and Nesti Dante’s Romantica Rose Peony Candle is beautifully, romantically floral fragrance.

Diffusers and oils

Rather than creating a certain ambiance at a particular time of day, diffusers are a great way to scent a room 24/7. Attractive, versatile and stylish, they’ll add a certain sophistication to the look and feel of your room too.

Gorgeously zingy fragrances like The Handmade Soap Co. Grapefruit & May Chang Diffuser will spice up any spot in the house. Or, go for something like the floral and aromatic Cole & Co Jasmin & Ylang Ylang Reed Diffuser.

Room sprays

A quick spritz of a room spray can have just the same effect as applying a jot of your favourite perfume. If you want an instant, mood-changing burst of aroma, you can find a deliciously scented room spray and do just that.

We love the Llewelyn Bowen Dawn Room Fragrance for its flamboyance, elegance and heady mix of vetiver, vanilla and musk, which helps to scent your room for even longer.
