Makeup With SPF In

Makeup With SPF In

With summer on its way, it’s time to take a fresh look at your skincare routine. One essential for the summer months is SPF. For day-to-day wear, you might feel more comfortable wearing makeup with SPF, rather than going barefaced and just slathering on the sun cream. Choosing makeup with some kind of sun protection is something that can become part of your routine, regardless of the time of year. After all, looking after your skin and protecting it from harmful rays should always be a top priority. Here are some lovely products with added SPF to get you started.

Foundations

It’s worth noting that if you’re serious about protecting your skin from sun damage, you should always apply a sun cream before your makeup. You may even need to top this up during the day if you’re out and about. After you’ve taken that clever first step, you can start beautifying yourself. Foundations with SPF will give you flawless coverage, as well as adding a protection factor. Lovely products include Maybelline’s Superstay Better Skin Foundation SPF20, Clarins Extra Comfort Foundation Anti Ageing SPF 15, and Clinique Even Better Makeup Foundation SPF 15.

BB Creams

If you want something that’s a little easier to wear, which may be a given during the summery months, BB Creams are the ideal alternative to foundations. They won’t feel as weighty on your skin, and if you have a little tan, it’ll shine through the lighter coverage they offer. Fabulous BB Creams with added SPF range from Rimmel’s BB Cream 9 In 1 Radiance SPF 15, to MAC’s Prep & Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35. Same applies as foundations, a sweep of sun cream before you apply your BB Cream is a must.

Tinted moisturisers

Just like BB Creams, tinted moisturisers give you a weightless feel, while perfecting those little blemishes. If you’re rocking a tan, have a healthy glow, or just need something to pep you up during your off-duty days, a tinted moisturiser can work wonders. Check out products like Nip + Fab’s Complex Correction Cream SPF30 for a soft, natural look.

Lipsticks and more
If you’re getting all made up, you don’t have to neglect the other parts of your face when it comes to SPF. Opting for lipsticks, eyeshadows and other makeup products with sun protection will help you stay on top of your healthy skin routine. Bourjois have a lovely range of colours in their Colour Boost Lipstick range with SPF15. Other products include Lancaster Infinite Bronze Face Bronzer with SPF 6 for a glowing complexion.

The Best In Self Tanning

The Best In Self Tanning

Finding the right tan can feel like hard work! Let us help you in understanding how some of our favourite products can be matched to your needs. Whether it’s for face, legs or whole body (!) our ultimate list will make at home tanning feel like a holiday!

There’s a huge range of self tanning products on the market and they are all suited to different skin types, tones and preferences. From gradual tan moisturisers, mousses, tanning lotions, tanning body butters, the list goes on but you can be sure you’ll find something to suit your needs at Fragrance Direct.

So first up we’ll start with some of our most asked questions about tanning and some of our favourite tips to get the best streak free tan!

Tip 1: Do everything else first! If you need to shave, exfoliate, touch up your manicure, whatever it is just make sure you do it before applying fake tan. If you exfoliate, shave and moisturise (as long as your tanning product doesn’t say don’t moisturise!) before tanning your will be starting with the best base. This helps keep your as even as possible.

Help! How do I tan my face?

The best way to get a gorgeous glow on your face is to use a product that is specific for the face. Something like the James Read Sleep Mask Tan Face is perfect! These products often include skincare ingredients to help keep your skin hydrated. Make sure you apply the product as evenly as you can, not forgetting rubbing it into the hairline, down the next and on the ears. Don’t forget to wash your hands when you’ve finished!

Tip 2: Start from your feet and work up. Use circular motions to apply your chosen fake tan product starting at your feet and pay particular attention to your ankles. Ankles can often pick up extra colour and look patchy so really buff it in. Starting at the bottom also prevents any marks or creases forming when you bend over.

Help! How do I tan my back?

This is every self tanners biggest problem! Especially if you’re applying your tan when you’re alone and therefore don’t have a spare pair of hands around. If you do have someone around, then use them! Sorry guys! However, if you don’t then fear not. Do you have a long handled body brush or loofa? Apply your tanning mitt on the end and secure with an elastic band or hair tie. Apply enough product to your mitt and then sweep it over your back, check in the mirror that you’ve covered all areas. This also works with a wooden spoon if you don’t have anything else!

Tip 3: Use a glove or a tanning mitt! Investing in a (or several) self tanning mitt is something you will never regret. A tanning mitt will make your application much more even and streak free, save your hands from staining and also stop you wasting product. You can also throw them in the washing machine when your done too so they’re super easy to clean!

Help! How do I tan my hands?

Hands can be a massive pain to tan seamlessly, but they are also the first place you’ll give away that your tan isn’t eau naturale! Ok so hands take a bit more attention and precision’ first up make sure you moisturise your wrists and knuckles, then use a mist product to spray over the tops of your hands and wrists. This way you get a really even coverage, without having to rub it in. DO NOT WASH YOUR HANDS STRAIGHT AWAY. This is the worst thing to do as you’ll end up with the dreaded fake tan sleeve! Instead use a wet wipe on any areas you want to clean e.g. nails, cuticles, palms.

Tip 4: Leave your tan to dry properly before dressing. This is an important step as you need to let the product fully dry down before dressing, otherwise you can end up with clothes marks. However long your tan says to leave before putting clothes on, in my experience, double it! Once the product is touch dry you can add a talc free baby powder all over and that should also help stop any tan from transferring to your clothes or bed sheets.

Help! How do I get my tan to last as long as possible?

Each product is different and therefore how long they last is down to a number of different factors. The product itself, your skin, your activities etc. However, there’s a couple of things you can do to help prolong your tan. Make sure you moisturise everyday, even using a gradual tan will help keep the colour topped up, don’t use any exfoliating products whilst you’ve got fresh tan as they will make you go patchy and avoid using any harsh cleansers on your face.

Tip 5: Cleaning up mistakes. Mistakes are going to happen, it’s inevitable’ until you become a fake tan pro anyway! If a streak or blotchy area has appeared by next morning then don’t worry, you don’t have to start all over again. Try rubbing half a lemon on the area and then buff a damp cloth over the top, this should lift off any noticeable steaks and help them blend in.

How To Approach Foundation

How To Approach Foundation

Do you need foundation? Which coverage should you choose? How should you apply it once you have chosen? We have the answers! Look no further! Discover the pros and cons of full foundation vs. light foundation based on your skin type and lifestyle, and never get stuck at the beauty counter again!

So, if you get confused by all the different foundations out there, don’t worry you’re not the only one! Every week it seems a brand brings out a new foundation with different benefits and coverage and it can all become a bit of a mind field.

Selecting a foundation is mainly down to personal preference. How you like your makeup to look, your skin type, and the finish you prefer. So I’ll explain a little bit about what the names of each foundation means and who they are best for’

Types of foundation

Liquid foundation ‘ Pretty simple and self-explanatory. Any foundations that come in a liquid form.
Powder foundation ‘ Usually comes in a compact form and are great for on the go.
Stick foundation ‘ Again are very portable so great for travelling, they are usually heavier formulas and more like a concealer texture.
Tinted Moisturiser ‘ Much lighter than a normal foundation and better for those who prefer less coverage.

Best foundations for your skin type

Your skin type will really influence the type of foundation you choose, as what looks great on a friend may not work the same for you.

Oily Skin ‘ if you have oily skin you are better opting for a powder foundation or a matte finish foundation. A powder foundation is much more likely to soak up any excess oil throughout the day and keep your skin looking as flawless as possible. If you use a liquid or ‘dewy’ foundation, the excess oil you produce throughout the day is likely to break down this kind of formula. So you’ll end up looking patchy. Matte foundations are generally more long lasting with a higher coverage, you can usually identify them as they’ll say, ‘Matte finish’, ‘Longwearing’, ‘No Shine’. The best foundation for oily skin is the L’Oreal Infallible 24 hour Matte Foundation.

Dry Skin ‘ if you have a dry skin type then you are much better off choosing a liquid foundation or a tinted moisturiser, depending on the type of coverage you prefer. Tinted moisturisers will give you as much hydration throughout the day as possible, which is what you need for dry skin, so is the kinder option. However, if you prefer more coverage then look for a foundation that offers a dewy finish that will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day and won’t cling to any dry patches. The Nuxe Tinted Moisturiser Cream is beautiful.

Normal/Combination Skin ‘ if you have normal skin that is neither oily or dry then thank your lucky stars, because you have the choice of all foundations! You can choose based on the finish or preference you prefer. Like your skin to look glowy and bright, then opt for a moisturising foundation or if you prefer a full coverage matte finish then choose a long wearing option. Some of our favourites are Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation, Max Factor Skin Luminizer Foundation, Fenty Beauty pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and Guerlain Parure de Lumiere Foundation.

Coverage

The type of coverage you go for in your foundation is mainly down to personal preference. Some people prefer a heavier coverage, that hides all blemishes and uneven skin tone and some prefer a lighter more minimal coverage that gives a fresher appearance.

Full coverage foundations ‘ they give you that flawless, smooth and perfect finish that will disguise any signs of acne, under eye circles, blemishes, pigmentation, you name it and full coverage will cover it. Some full coverage foundations can even hide tattoos!

Full coverage foundations are great for days when you need that extra coverage and long-lasting finish, for example going to a wedding or a festival and you don’t want your makeup to budge. When applying a full coverage foundation, you don’t need as much as you might think. Try starting with one pump and see how far it goes. Because they are denser than other formulas they often go a little bit further. If after one layer you feel like you need a bit extra, let the first layer dry and then add more product in the areas you need.

Light coverage foundations – they are perfect for everyday use. If you want that ‘no makeup’ makeup look then a light or medium coverage is best for you. They tend to be a bit more liquidy than fuller coverage formulas and spread more easily. A light coverage foundation is best applied with either your fingers or a sponge for that super natural finish.

No coverage foundation ‘ who says we must wear foundation everyday anyway! They are plenty of products out there that work to enhance your face without the need for a foundation or base product. You can cover any blemishes with a spot of concealer, give yourself a pop of colour with some blusher or bronzer and swipe a nude lipstick over your lips to give you a super natural no makeup look.

Using a combination of sandalwood and avocado, the natural goodness of Urban Veda’s Soothing Facial Oil is perfect for sensitive skin types. Nourishing, calming and rich in anti-aging ingredients, it’s has the power to freshen up your complexion, giving you naturally bright and healthy-looking skin.

What Can Facial Oils Do For You

What Can Facial Oils Do For You

Facial oils have stormed the beauty market over the last couple of years, but have you swotted up on their benefits and uses? These moisture-boosting products are more than just a fad. In fact, people have been using facial oils since ancient Egyptian times for good reason.

The way you apply them differs slightly depending on skin type. One rule of thumb however, is not to replace your moisturiser with a facial oil. Generally, you’ll be smoothing them onto your skin after moisturising. Here are just seven of our favourites to check out.

Cougar Co-Enzyme Q10 Facial Oil

As you grow older, some of your skin’s suppleness and glossiness is lost. This clever oil from Cougar tackles those problem areas, giving you a glowing complexion. All this is thanks to the Co-Enzyme Q10, an ingredient known for its anti-aging properties. It also has SPF25 sun protection, added anti-oxidants, and stimulates your skin to retain more moisture.

Cowshed Raspberry Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Oil

We especially love Cowshed’s Raspberry Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Oil. Not only does it harness the power of natural ingredients, it also smells delicious and works wonders on tired skin. Designed to combat environmental stresses, this nourishing oil is ideal for city dwellers. A mix of anti-oxidants and fatty acids gives you one big-hitting moisture-boosting oil.

Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil

This super-smoothing oil is at the more expensive end of the spectrum, but does it work! Lighter than most oils on the market, this smart product is made to be worn under your foundation to give you a dewy appearance. You simply need to mix it with your moisturiser for best results, and you’ll feel glam all-day long.

NUXE Shimmering Dry Oil Huile Prodigieuse New Formula

If you simply want to look dazzling, rather than intensively moisturise, NUXE Shimmering Dry Oil Huile Prodigieuse is definitely one to check out. This aromatic dry oil is made for nights out, and can be glossed onto face, body and hair. Divine and seductive, it gives your skin a smooth, satin feel, and a beautiful golden shimmer.

Balance Me Radiance Face Oil

For those prone to redness and breakouts, the calming Balance Me Radiance Face Oil could be your secret weapon. Oilixia Skincare Explorer Blend Facial Oil

Designed to tone and brighten your skin, this hard-working treatment blends 18 locally sourced oils.
