Spring may seem like a distant dream right now but we’re already dreaming of its fashion and beauty benefits. We can discard the tights, ditch the layers, reach for the tinted moisturiser and now no longer have to fuss over our nails so much!
As pretty and fun as crazy nail art is to look at, actually achieving the look can result in either a pricy trip to the salon or a DIY catastrophe at home (unless you’re a whiz kid when it comes to nails). That’s why we love this season’s hottest new trend for your nails ‘ Floating Nail Art.
We know it may sound a little intimidating but floating nail art is all about minimal design which is going to make it easier for you to achieve and wear this on trend look. Shown on all the S/S 14 catwalks, The Floating Nail Art trend is set to take the beauty world by storm. Just remember – the minimal, the better.
One of the main reasons why we’re falling head over heels for this look is the simplicity of the method. The trick is not to have your nails looking like you’ve tried too hard while keeping things looking chic and sophisticated. Take a look at some of our favourite floating nail art images to get some ‘nailspiration’.

Simple and sophisticated, we love this minimal take on the classic French manicure. To achieve the look, all you need is a nude polish, some nail art striping tape, a black shade of varnish and a top coat.
Baby blue can transform your nails and give them that perfect Spring edge. Make a subtle statement and opt for a nude base before applying a light shade of blue in a half-moon shape along the cuticle.

If beige and white weren’t a match made in heaven, we don’t know what is! Adopting the same half-moon design, apply a nude base to your nail before reaching for a dramatic white to create the semi-circle shape.
Who needs one nail polish when you can have five?! If you want to keep things a little more playful, take inspiration from this adorable 5-colour look. Choose your favourite shades and create a semi-circle on each cuticle. Then just sit back and marvel at your masterpiece!
Top tips for creating the Floating Nail Art Trend
Always prep your nails before applying any product. It’s important to give your nails a healthy base so that any colour you use will apply smoother and last for longer.
It’s the oldest beauty trick in the book but using a nail file can strengthen, shorten and prime your nails for any style you want to try. We love Royal’s 7 Way Nail Buffer for its ability to grip, smooth out and buff your nails in 7 different ways. And let’s face it, you always need a nail buffer for your handbag!
Give your nails a little TLC with Jessica’s Phenomen Oil. This is an intensive moisturiser which aims to condition your nails. Put a few drops and spend a few minutes moisturising the product into your nails, including the cuticle. It will help to promote the growth and strength of your nail base.
If you want your nail polish to have major longevity, then always use a base coat before applying your favourite shade. Sally Hansen’s Insta Grip Fast Dry Base Coat creates a nourishing base for your nails so that your shade maintains its colour and stays chip free for longer.

90s Revival has never been more on trend than if you stepped back into the 90s era. We’re not asking you to dig out your choker necklace and your Sporty Spice inspired work out gear but we do encourage you to lace your lips with a dark lipstick shade.
SS14 gave us a huge insight into the beauty trends that key designers were keen to strut down the catwalk. Fendi and 3.1 Phillip Lim made a statement not only with their designs but with bold lip shades that set a precedent for the 2014 beautysphere.
Traditionally, dark shades of lipstick have been reserved and boxed off for winter as a way to add a pop of colour to your winter wardrobe. But now, cast aside all of your S/S traditions and look at this season’s hottest lip colour trends that feature some shades that may surprise you.
Berry lipstick shades are one of our favourites for evolving your every day make-up look. Add a subtle brightness to your lips with shades such as Calvin Klein’s Delicious Luxury CrÇùme Lipstick in ‘Desire’. This is a deep and sumptuous shade of berry with undertones of subtle pinks.
Top Tip – If you don’t want to go too heavy on your lipstick, the trick is to apply the product with your fingers. This will subtly build the colour up over time and lets you control how dark or light you want your lipstick to be.
Max Factor’s Lipfinity Lip Colour is an intense shade of berry that will add a subtle, pretty colour to your lips. It contains soft blue undertones which suits a range of skin tones, in particular dark and olive tones.
Top Tip – A nice trick to try if you want to tie your make-up look in together is to warm up the lip shade between your fingers and gently apply to your cheeks, blending upwards and outwards. This will pull the look in altogether and add a subtle glow to your cheeks.
When Kate Moss stepped onto the scene in the early 90s, her striking facial features and long legs weren’t the only thing we noticed about her. Her ability to wear and rock a brown lip has always stuck in our memories as the ultimate 90s beauty trend.
Take inspiration from the likes of Drew Barrymore and Kat Dennings when you’re thinking about trying this revived make-up trend. Bourjois Une’s Lip Toned Colour Lipstick in the shade L 21 is a good place to start. A deep, rusty brown, this matt lipstick is ideal for darker skin tones.
Top Tip – Before you apply the lipstick, take a tooth brush and gently exfoliate the lips. This will leave you with a smooth base that will grasp the colour for longer.
If you have a fair/light complexion, Becca’s Sheer Tint Lip Colour in Milla is a more wearable shade of brown. This Becca lip product is sheer and hydrating, leaving a subtle shine to the lips so that you can build the colour up over application.
Top Tip – If you want the colour to last for longer, sweep a light dusting of pressed powder over your lips ‘ this will help to lock the colour in all day.
Bordeaux shades are deep tones which compliment golden and darker skin. Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lipstick in ‘Sweet Bordeux’ is a rich shade of burgundy which is a great transitional colour to take you from day to night.
Top Tip – Apply this product with a lip brush to really accentuate your lips and enhance the colour.
Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in ‘Across The Universe’ is an amazing product for adding an intense stain to your lips. It applies like a gloss which quickly sets and tints your lip for all day wear. Across The Universe is a sumptuous Bordeaux shade that will instantly add drama to any make-up look.
Top Tip – Before applying this product, use a lip liner in a similar shade to outline your lips. This will help create the perfect pout.

Did you have a fringe when you were a little girl? I did and I hated it (mainly because my dad provided the ‘haircut’, may I add). Throughout my adolescent years, I stayed very far away from the ‘fringe’ until I reunited with short bangs and adopted the hairstyle back into my life. So why does the fringe keep reinventing itself? Just when you think it’s gone out of style, our favourite celebrity crops up with one and the beauty and hair world go into frenzy.
One of the main reasons why fringe haircuts prove so popular is that they can reinvent your entire look and make a real style statement. Once upon a time, things were as simple as having a full cut fringe and that was it. Fast forward to 2014 and you can choose between blunt-cut bangs, side-swept locks or a peek-a-boo fringe. Before you take the fringe plunge, check out some of our favourite celebrity fringe looks and learn which fringe suits your face shape.
Square Face Shapes
Taking inspiration from Nicole Richie’s long fringe, we recommend long-grazing bangs that are delicately tapered at the sides for square face shapes. This will help to soften square face shapes and avoid your bangs overwhelming your face. Your fringe should be snipped just below the brows with the heavier sections left to the outer sides of the face ‘ this means that your fringe won’t mask your eyes.
To prep your fringe for staying sleek, smooth and most importantly, in place, we recommend using a smoothing shampoo like Matrix’s Total Results Sleek Shampoo. This shampoo helps to cleanse, moisturise and smooth your locks. It locks in moisture so that you can enjoy frizz free hair all day.
Oval Face Shapes
Lucky for all you oval face shapes, you can get away with almost any fringe shape but if we could recommend one cut for you, we’d opt for the pin-straight fringe. This is a wispy and light fringe which won’t overbear your face ‘ instead, it will optimize and accentuate the prettiest parts of your face, as seen on style starlet, Alexa Chung. Ask your hairdresser to stop your bangs between the brows and your eyelashes. This means you can choose to sweep your fringe to one side or wear it in a middle parting.
As fringes can quickly become greasy, we always recommend having a dry shampoo to hand. We like the Girlz Only Dry Shampoo Spray for ‘Hazy Days’. This handy product smells of fresh florals and will instantly perk up your fringe.
Round Face Shapes
We love a fringe when it’s combined with a round face shape. Gently arched fringes compliment and accentuate your soft and feminine features so when you sit down in that stylist chair, avoid asking for bangs. Instead, opt for a curved shape fringe, as seen here on Jennifer Hudson. This type of fringe will flatter your bone structure. Just make sure that the fringe is thick to create a dramatic and chic look.
If they aren’t already, straighteners will quickly become your best fringe friend. Whether you have wavy or straight locks, heat styling tools, like these Braun Satin Hair Iontec Straighteners are an every day essential. The nice thing about these straighteners, beside the fact that they will leave you with effortlessly straight hair, is that they’re specifically designed to protect your hair’s health. Pressing the ion jet button on these heat tools will release millions of satin ions which will attract moisture particles from the hair while straightening.
Heart Face Shapes
A side swept fringe has never looked chicer on a heart shaped face. This face type can sometimes be a little top heavy so opting for side swept bangs can have a balancing effect and draw attention towards the eyes, quite like Reese Witherspoon’s glamorous hair style. Ask your hairdresser for feathered bangs that hit the arch of your eyebrows with the longest sections meeting the outer corners of the eyes.
Schwarzkopf’s BC Styling Treat Smoothing Fluid is a great product to use when you’re trying to style a fringe. Perfect for fine, normal, curly and wavy hair, this Smoothing Fluid protects your hair from the effects of heat styling tools. It contains ingredients like amino acid glycine which protects the hair’s inner structure and provides ultimate control which will tame your fringe and stop any unwanted flyaways dead in their tracks.

We all know the age old story ‘ New Year comes quickly comes around once again and before we know it, we’re promising ourselves that in 6 months time we’ll be X amount of pounds lighter and we no longer will feel the need to reach for that bar of chocolate sitting on our desk.
Okay so we might have a few slip ups along the way but ultimately, we’re working towards achieving a more healthy, youthful and glowing ‘us’. First stop on the path to getting fit after that Christmas diet is to book ourselves some worthwhile exercising time. Whether you’re going to the gym or exercising from the comfort of your living room (cue the nosey neighbors giggling at your star jumps), sometimes we have to break a sweat with our make-up on.
I can already hear you crying out that of course we shouldn’t wear make-up when we’re working out. When we get hot, our skin gets hot, causing our pores to open and if we’re wearing a full face of cosmetics, dirt and oils will seep into our skin and get trapped beneath the surface, thus causing break outs! However, when you’re in a rush from work or you’re absolutely petrified of letting the local gym ‘hunk’ see you without a full face of make-up, it can be easy to avoid taking your make-up off. We do stress that it’s important to let your skin breathe during a workout but if wearing make-up can’t be avoided, take a peek at some products we recommend for your fitness regime.
Sweat It Out
As we said above, it’s important to let your skin breathe during exercise in order to stop your pores from becoming blocked. If you’re going to wear a foundation to the gym then it’s better to look for products that aren’t going to add any excess oil to your face. Bourjois Une’s Soft Minerals Powder Foundation is a good base product if you want to help shine control. Mineral based make-up products soak up excess oil and mattify the skin, providing you with a more natural look. Apply your mineral based foundation with a large powder brush so that you can reach a larger portion of the face.
A waterproof mascara is an essential when it comes to any fitness regime and it’s a great alternative if you would rather leave your foundation behind. Mascara is a great tool for opening up your eyes and making you look that little bit more awake. Because you’ll be working out so very hard, waterproof mascara is great for maintaining long lashes while you exercise. We like Miss Sporty’s Lash Millionaire Waterproof Mascara for maintaining fluttering lids while we’re lifting those weights or running on that treadmill. It’s long lasting power will see you through your workout and beyond.
Obvious fact number one: Sweat smells. Even if you’re Rosie Huntington Whiteley, you’re still going to smell bad after an exercise session. Of course you’re going to bring your deodorant but what about a fragrance? Spraying your favourite scent may seem like a slightly strange and unnecessary thing to do at the gym but certain fragrances actually have the ability to cover those odors that your deodorant cannot (just call them super hero fragrances). Citrus perfumes are undeniably fresh and energizing; just what you need to inspire you for a workout. BOSS Orange Eau de Toilette is a nice scent for taking with you on the go. Because it’s light and refreshing, it’s perfect for spritzing before exercise. It contains notes of Orange and White Flowers which create a modern and carefree scent.
It’s vital to shower after exercising. First and foremost, we need to think about our hygiene. Sweating may be a sign of a really good workout but say it, don’t spray it! Not only can a shower alleviate unwanted smells, it can also help to ease your muscles after an intense workout. Part of enjoying your daily shower is all about having an indulgent shower gel that leaves your skin looking and smelling amazing. We love this BOSS Orange Shower Gel which is the perfect accompaniment for the BOSS Orange EDT. You can continue the bohemian, light scent of BOSS Orange and enjoy soft and smooth skin.
Whether you’ve worn make-up or not to the gym, it’s very important to cleanse your skin after your workout. The best time to do this is directly after exercising, while your skin is still warm. The reason for this is that as your skin cools down, your pores tighten and trap any make-up, oil or bacteria in the opening of the pore which can lead to breakouts. T Zone’s Shine Control Cleansing Wipes are good for taking on the go, so as soon as you step off the treadmill, you can cleanse your skin. It’s also good to use these wipes before your workout as they help to control shine ‘ something that we can all appreciate when we’re sweating like mad.
