Fragrance Direct recently quizzed thousands of their customers via their social media channels to find out some of their favourite brands and fragrances of the last year, and the results make for some interesting reading.
The Most Popular Mainstream Fragrance that Fragrance Direct customers loved in 2012 is the luxurious 1 Million perfume for men from Paco Rabanne, taking home just under 40 per cent of the vote. Second place went to the classic CK One perfume with 21 per cent, and the bronze medal was awarded to Joop Homme with 16 per cent.
Lady Gaga is one of the biggest music stars on the planet right now, and is certainly the most eccentric. Her debut fragrance Fame, an innovative perfume which claims to be the world’s first “black to clear” scent, reflects her personality, and has certainly made its mark on perfume fans; a massive 43 per cent of Fragrance Direct customers named Fame by Lady Gaga as the Best Celebrity Fragrance of 2012.
Other popular celebrity perfumes last year were Rebelle by Barbadian pop singer Rihanna, which took 19 per cent, and Wonderstruck by country beauty Taylor Swift, taking third place with 14 per cent of the vote.
However, when it came to the Best New Fragrance of 2012, Lady Gaga’s Fame scent was beaten into second place by the newest perfume from fashion designer Marc Jacobs, Dot. With its playful aroma and polka dot bottle, Dot has become an instant classic, and Marc Jacobs’ latest creation won the Best New Fragrance title with 30 per cent of the vote.
As for the Best Perfume TV Commercial, the TV campaign for new Nina Ricci scent Ricci was the overall winner, claiming 30 per cent of the vote. Second place, with 20 per cent, went to the Chanel No.5 advert starring Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, which is somewhat surprising as the advert has come under criticism from some quarters for its bizarre nature.
